McGregor will have to wait in line when I win UFC belt’ – Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor Will have to Wait in Line When I Win UFC belt

The number one UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov on RT. Talks about his family life, his new baby boy. And his rivals in the UFC lightweight division, including the lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

Khabib talks at length about what he plans for his son. And answers the question as to whether he will also be introduced to the wrestling mats like his father.

He talks about the weight cut going into his fight against Edson Barboza. And how the entire weight cut and fight went perfectly. It’s an approach he intends to bring into his next fight against Tony Ferguson at UFC 223.

Khabib has been told that he will fight Ferguson for the championship belt and not the interim title. While Conor McGregor is still considered the champion by the UFC. To Khabib he is no longer the champion.

Facing Tony Ferguson at UFC 223

Khabib breaks down what is to be expected from his fight with Ferguson. And goes into detail about what Tony brings to the table and what he must be wary of in the contest. He says that the fight was originally scheduled to take place in Seattle Washington. But once he accepted the fight, the UFC moved the fight to Brooklyn due to the high population of Russian’s in the city.

Khabib also talks about the potential to fight in Moscow. But says that it is still something which is in the works. As the Russian’s are making life difficult for UFC President Dana White.

He answers the question about him defending the belt against a returning McGregor. And says he wants to make him humble by making him get in line. Khabib also talks about some of the latest signings to the UFC with the same last name as him. Are all these guys related?

Tony El Cucuy Ferguson || Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights

Tony El Cucuy Ferguson || Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights

Hip Blades, Darce Chokes, and Elbows…oh my!

In my last breakdown of Tony Ferguson, I covered what I call his “bladed square dancing” as a reference to his use of varietal stances and rhythmic trances to often confuse opponents, making his (to the purist) awkward striking technique effective. I will touch on that (link in description) briefly here and fast forward to his most recent few fights, and finishing ways.

Tony Ferguson is a mixed martial artist who is currently with UFC. Ferguson was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 13. He competes in the lightweight division and is currently the UFC lightweight (interim?) champion. His next bout is expected to be against number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov.

‘El Cucuy’, who’s nickname references a Latin American monster of folklore, similar to El Chupecabra or Bigfoot in being elusive and terrifying, seems applicable. His striking is certainly different than the traditionalist, and his Brown Belt under Eddie Bravo in the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system often shows off his unorthodoxy as well. He is dangerous as a striker and grappler amidst a 9 fight win streak, capping most recently with impressive wins over former champion Rafael Dos Anjos, and rising star Kevin Lee.

Okay folks, let’s do this…..

Chael Sonnen: Stipe Miocic got his feelings hurt...but didn’t realize what was really happening

Stipe Miocic Got His Feeling Hurt But Didn’t Realize What Was Really Going On Says Chael Sonnen

UFC Champion Stipe Miocic has been pretty vocal, about the lack of promotion and overall treatment he has received from the UFC. In the lead up to his title contender fight with Francis Ngannou. But Bellator Grand Prix heavyweight Chael Sonnen has a different take on what exactly transpired.

Was there more to this story than meets the eye? Sonnen believes so and reminds us that a magician never reveals his secrets… often bringing them to the grave. Whether Chael is correct or not, who knows.  But he does have a very interesting take, as he himself is one of the greatest promoters of fights in the business. So listen and learn.

FIRAS ZAHABI “GEORGES ST-PIERRE WILL FIGHT AGAIN; HE'S OUT FOR AT LEAST A YEAR OR TWO”

“GEORGES ST-PIERRE WILL FIGHT AGAIN; HE’S OUT FOR AT LEAST A YEAR OR TWO” FIRAS ZAHABI

FIRAS ZAHABI “I THINK GEORGES ST-PIERRE WILL FIGHT AGAIN; OUT FOR AT LEAST A YEAR OR TWO”

Fighthub reporter Marcos Villegas speaks to TriStar gym head coach Firas Zahabi. Trainer of the former middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, about when and even if the former UFC champion will return.

Zahabi knows GSP very well and often feels like he knows what he is thinking. He believes that Georges will, in fact, be back, but he has no idea when that will be. He never discusses it with him as it’s something Georges himself has to decide.

But Zahabi feels that Georges is such an ultra-competitive guy. That there will come a day when his desire to return and compete is simply too strong. But, saying that, Firas believes it will be a year to two years before that happens.

Now at 36, that doesn’t leave too long before GSP will be considering retirement for good. Let’s hope that we do in fact get to see many’s p4p king. Back in the octagon at some point in the not too distant future.

Demetrious Johnson Don Not Ducking TJ Dillashaw and the Title

Demetrious Johnson Discusses TJ Dillashaw UFC Title Matchup

The UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson talks about his potential fight against bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. Mightmouse breaks down the current situation between him and the UFC. And why there have been rumours of him originally turning down the fight.

Johnson is quick to point out that he has not, in fact, turned down anything. But is simply holding out for the correct reimbursement for fighting Dillashaw? Adding that if fighters like CM Punk can get 300k for their first fight. Why is he not, as the champion, receiving the same treatment?

Demetrious says that he is ready and willing to face fellow champion TJ. To discover who is the best between the two at flyweight.

Johnson has looked unbeatable in the last number of years. Going 13 straight fights without losing, while defeating every number one challenger along the way. But with a division that now looks devoid of genuine threats.  A super-fight against Dillashaw looks like the perfect way for the most dominant champion in UFC history to once again truly test himself.

With no word on a date or even if the fight will ever actually become a reality. Fans will just have to wait and see if Johnson’s negotiation pays off in the end. And the world gets to see yet another fighter attempt to hold two belts simultaneously.

Let’s hope that a Demetrious Johnson vs TJ Dillashaw flyweight title fight becomes a reality in 2018. Yet another outstanding bout to look forward to on our fight calendar.

Bellator 192 Countdown Episode 3: Rampage vs Sonnen #Bellator192

Bellator 192 Countdown 3: Rampage vs Sonnen

With just a days before they finally meet in the Bellator 192 Heavyweight World Grand Prix’s opening round. We follow the main event fighters Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. And ‘The American Gangster’ Chael Sonnen in their pre-fight build up.

We are told that Quinton has never wanted it more than now. As he looks to turn back time and claim a second world title. There is little doubt that Rampage does look in good shape. Especially in his move up to heavyweight. The veteran hasn’t merely piled on the pounds but also looks to have put on the muscle.

But his opponent Chael P informs us that it is not all merely about size. Reminding us that Mike Tyson never had a size advantage in any of his fights. And that the smaller kid in the playground who got beat up, was probably a wimp!

Rampage gives us the reasons for why he fights. And explains why the fighting is only one part of the picture. Adding that it’s important for fighters to build themselves outside of the cage and not be boring as fuck!

Weigh-ins

Finally, it’s almost time as the fighter do their pre-fight weigh-ins. Rampage steals the shows with his special gold-coloured underwear which steals the limelight.

Chael comes in at 220+ while Rampage weigh-in over 250+, quite a big jump up in size for Jackson. As we are finally set for the main event at Bellator 192. Interested to see how this classic veteran matchup finally plays out.

All the action takes place this Saturday, January 20th, 2018. Live from The Forum in Inglewood, California. | On Paramount Network at 9/8c. In a head to head with the UFC, let’s see how all this finishes up in terms of viewership.

GSP • Georges St Pierre | The Return of the King | The Return of the Martial Artist UFC 217 |

*I had to re-do this everyone. I had too much fun making it.*

In one of the sport of MMA’s biggest nights, on the world’s biggest stage we saw the return of (p4p King) Georges St Pierre, and the return of the Bushido Spirit, the martial artist, and to anyone who’s ever stepped on a mat, that should mean something.

Because I’ve covered his technique / skill set at length in the past, I wanted to make something that went beyond the breakdown. This is certainly something a little different, as the Kasparov of MMA is slated to cement his legacy to the the throne vs. Robert Whittaker.

The game of life, the game of combat. the game of thrones and zero sum game of human chess. Study, and look for something beyond the blatant.

The tension was real, the mental warfare, the proverbial bully beat-down and the crowning of 3 new world champions. If there were a theme, (and this is not to say the non-victorious aren’t martial artists) it was that the person who embraced their inner Musashi, who “spoke softly, and carried a big stick” that was victorious against the odds. This is a study in the evolution of the mixed martial artist. Let’s relive, shall we?

Francis NGannou vs Zoumana Cissé and His Only Loss

Francis Ngannou vs Zoumana Cissé: 100% Contenders 21

Many fans of the UFC will only be familiar seeing top heavyweight contender Francis NGannou knocking out his opponents. But before making the move to the Ultimate Fighting Championships. NGannou fought a total of six times under other promotions.

Back in 2013, he faced Zoumana Cissé at 100% Fight Contender 21 in Paris France as the main event. It was only his second fight as a professional and showed us a fighter who was very much learning on the job.

In a back and forth contest, NGannou would eventually lose via unanimous decision. Giving him what is for the now the only loss on his 13 fight record.

Since coming to the UFC, he has looked like a fighter who gets better with each contest. Currently, 6-0 with the promotion. NGannou has made his way from newbie to top contender in two shorts years. With a UFC record of 5 KO/TKO’s and 1 win via submission. He has become known as a big puncher, knocking some of his opponents out cold with just one shot.

Facing Stipe Miocic UFC 220

With big names, such former champion Andre Arlovski and Alistair Overeem dispensed with relative ease, he now faces the biggest test of his career. With a title fight at UFC 220 against reigning champion Stipe Miocic.

Entering the fight as the favourite over the champion. It’s NGannou’s improving skills, athleticism and clear knockout power which has placed him as the odds-on favourite to win. But, he is coming up against a champion who on paper at least, outshines his counterpart from Cameroon.

When the two meet in Boston on January 20th, it will be one of the biggest heavyweight clashes in recent memory. With the two countries of USA/Croatia and Cameroon cheering on their own. It’s a story which may either have a fairytale or nightmare ending. But one thing is for sure! Stipe Miocic vs Francis NGannou is a story which has it all.

Stipe and Francis: The Two Rockys

Stipe Miocic versus francis Ngannou.

Stipe and Francis: The Two Rockys

Guest post by Ciro Crispino

It’s the middle of the night. Rain is assaulting glass and a parade of lightning dances in the distance. A man sits bolt upright in bed, thick beads of sweat slithering down his forehead. The bald, middle-aged man launches the covers off and sits on the edge of his mattress. He paws at the bedside table, looking for his phone. He finally gets his sweaty hands on it and drives his finger into the screen, he puts the phone to his ear. ‘Joe, it’s Dana. I’ve had a dream. Get your passport, we’re going to France.’

UFC 220 is almost upon us and it brings with it the most hotly – allow me to repeat myself. HOTLY! – anticipated heavyweight title fight in years, but you don’t need me to tell you that do you? The hype train has been doing laps around the MMA world since Francis Ngannou shovel hooked Alistair Overeem into the phantom zone at UFC 218. And I don’t mean to sound snarky because I myself am sat in a booth on that hype train with a knife and fork in hand. The incumbent champion versus a surging wrecking machine. The next big thing versus the next best thing. Lovely.

A Fascinating Heavyweight Battle

Rhetoric aside, this is genuinely the most fascinating heavyweight fight in what feels like eons. Stipe Miocic is on the cusp of breaking the fabled heavyweight title curse, as no man has been able to defend it more than twice – those men being Cain Velasquez, Brock Lesnar, Tim Sylvia and Randy Couture. If Stipe can pull this off then that makes him, at least mathematically speaking, the greatest heavyweight in UFC history. But of course, that is a very big “if.” What stands in his path is perhaps the most terrifying knock out artist in 265 history, Francis Ngannou.

“The Predator” perhaps needs no introduction at this point, but for the sake of continuity, I’ll give him one. His current UFC record stands at six finishes inside two rounds, with four in the first. Five of these are by KO or TKO and one is by submission (kimura). His victims include Curtis Blaydes, Andrei Arlovski and the aforementioned Overeem. Of course, his KOs aren’t normal KOs. They are works of art, and terrifying displays of raw power, unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the division.

Beyond the explosive punches, we also see technical boxing skill and preternatural athletic promise. On top of that, he looks fresh off of God’s gold-plated conveyor belt, standing at 6’5 and built like the tank that all the other tanks are scared of. Physically he is a much-needed monster in a dilapidated heavyweight division. But what would this really mean without a true Cinderella story? This is where things get interesting.

From Poverty to Prime Time

Batie village in Cameroon.Francis Ngannou was born to poverty in a small village in Cameroon, Africa. Due to his impoverished upbringing and perhaps influenced by his father’s reputation as a street brawler, Ngannou got into a lot of fights. When he was twelve he began working in a sand pit to bring some money into the family. In his early twenties he took up boxing, and then at the age of twenty-six moved to Paris to escape the hopelessness he saw around him, despite having no money.

He spent a good chunk of time homeless before stumbling into Ferdinand Lopez’s MMA Factory, who saw the malleable prospect before him and decided to take him under his wing. I’m going to say it, but to soften the blow and maintain my own integrity I’m going to put quotes around it; “It’s like something out of a film.”

Just a Normal Guy from Cleveland

Then there’s Stipe. Little old Stipe. He’s just a normal guy from Cleveland with a normal look who is a good wrestler and good boxer. He works really hard and is a good guy with a good record, but he’s prime for the taking, surely? The Cameroonian nightmare is going to dine on this average joe. He’s too powerful, too big, and too athletic. Plus, he’s using the most scientific training and recovery methods known to man at his new adoptive home in Las Vegas, the Performance Institute.

Stipe miocic ufc champion.Meanwhile, Stipe is just hanging out in Ohio, working as a fireman when he’s not training in the same little gym he’s been training in since his early twenties. Unlike Francis, he didn’t need to fight to escape a life of destitution and despair. He wrestled at university and just kind of fell into fighting when a friend asked him to train at his gym. He kept going at it because he enjoyed it and was good at it until he happened to become the world champ.

No one expected much out of him and he kept proving them wrong. Through all this, he also managed to stay true to himself, as he kept working as a firefighter despite that UFC money. Wait. I feel like I’m getting my characterisation mixed up. Stipe is the everyman working class hero, and Francis is the rags to riches story? Oh no, it’s a paradox. Two Rockys!

You see, what we have here is a good example of the machine clouding the real story, these are two protagonists locking horns. Both men are inspirations in a different way. The UFC however, have got the proverbial rocket strapped to Ngannou and are weaving this yarn that he is this phenom and Stipe is the transitional champ sitting on the belt for the time being.

The Perfect Man

I do acknowledge that Ngannou is the perfect man to bring the heavyweight division into the WME era. A monstrous killer and knock out artist with an enrapturing backstory and a highly marketable look. Joe Rogan said it best: people will pay to see how long his opponents survive. Dare I say it, it’s somewhat “Tysonesque.” The UFC wants him to win. They know it, we know it, and even Stipe knows it, as he told Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour recently. Remember that hype train I mentioned earlier?

Dana white with francis ngannou and stipe miocic.Well, it looks like Thomas the Tank Engine, except with Dana White’s face sticking out of the front. He has done everything except look Miocic in the eye and tell him to do the damn job. At the press conference before UFC 219, Dana stood and rattled off statistics on Francis’ punching power with Stipe sat right next to him. They are putting out what they believe to be the spark of a new dawn for the heavyweight belt, with “The Predator” lighting the match.

But of course, any result will produce spoils containing both tragedy and awe. Miocic is on the doorstep of history as a spot atop the all-time heavyweight rankings is within his grasp. I know the idea of a new megastar in Francis is exciting, but the thought of seeing someone finally kick down that door is mightily enticing when you consider the dice roll that the division has always been.

The Next Big Thing?

If Francis does it though, we may have the next big thing – and his story will have a happy ending – but we lose a potentially special piece of history-making, at least for the time being. If Stipe wins we perhaps lose a new superstar and monster draw. It’s swings and roundabouts, and I don’t know if I love that or hate it, but in the fight game you simply can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Another curious omission is Miocic’s own heavy-handed accomplishments. He’s riding a five-fight winning streak, with four knockouts in the first round. Those heads hitting the mat belong to Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos. I don’t know about you, but I find that a more impressive run than Ngannou’s. The UFC don’t seem to be interested though, but that’s fine. Miocic is confident in his abilities and knockout power, even in the face of someone with bolt guns for hands. The narrative is not tailored for him, it’s tailored for his opponent, but he rightly understands that won’t matter when the bell rings.

Miocic is Uninterested

The man born to Croatian immigrants is so wholly uninterested in whatever histrionics pundits and marketing graduates are garnishing this build with. That’s something for people like us who think about MMA too much. It’s like a song you don’t particularly like but don’t hate enough to change the station for on the way to work in the morning. The champ has shrugged off any concerns levelled at him, and for once I buy it.

He seems confident, truly confident, he wants to break the title defense record and plans on doing it by fighting a good fight. He cares not for any three-act structure or the culmination of a hero’s journey. In order to deal with someone as difficult as Francis Ngannou, you can’t let the hype machine get to you, and you can’t let whatever story you’re being funnelled into have any impact on your mindset. For him, there are no stories, no characters, no hype. Only two men, in an octagon, fighting.

On January 20th we may see a Cinderella story play out. We may see the greatest of all time emerge from his latest trial. But what we will see is a bloody good scrap, and at the end of the day, isn’t that why we’re all here?

The Good Son: The Life of Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini - Full Movie

The Life of Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini: The Good Son

A fascinating look at the life and times of former world lightweight champion, Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini. Mancini has a fascinating backstory. And who like many other fighters, had a tough upbringing. With both his father and brother being highly regarded in the world of boxing.

Mancini had all the characteristics and qualities of a superstar in the making. As he followed his older brother into the sport, he always had his eye on the prize of a world championship. Even at 11 years of age, telling his father Lenny he would capture the world title for him.

As his career progressed, Ray soon began to outshine his older brother. Who while having all of the tools needed to reach the top. Didn’t have the same level dedication to the sport. After the mills at Youngstown Ohio closed for good. Lenny Junior returned to the sport, saying he had some unfinished business. It was the spark that truly ignited Ray’s desire, as brother Lenny helped elevate his skills inside the ropes.

Moving to the Professional Ranks

After some losses in the amateur’s, Ray was advised to make the move to the professional ranks. As his style was not suited to the amateurs. A move to New York soon followed, along with Saturday billing on the CBS network.

In a post-recession era and with the American audience having been exposed to the Rocky movie. With a Jewish manager, a black trainer and an Italian Stallion fighter! Mancini fitted the bill perfectly in terms of demographics. And America was falling in love with the Mancini story.

Following the violent death of his older brother Lenny. Ray jumped straight back into the ring, with tunnel vision and determination to achieve his goal of a world championship. And it wasn’t long before he achieved another milestone, landing the NABF lightweight title against Jorge Morales.

Failing in his first attempt at the WBC world championship. Ray Mancini would finally claim the WBA world lightweight title in 1982. With the retirement of perhaps the most marketable fighter in boxing, Sugar Ray Leonard. Mancini would quickly become the face of the sport.

The Death of Deuk-Koo Kim

Ray mancini ko's duk hoo kim.Enter the number one WBA challenger Deuk-Koo Kim, a fighter from South Korean born into the depths of poverty. Kim would test Mancini like no one before outside of his own brother. But he would lose the fight and die during the process.

The fight would be responsible for the change from 15 to 12 rounds in world championship boxing. While also slowly lead to the demise of Mancini’s career.

This is the story of the rise and fall of Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini. And him getting closure on the death of Deuk-Koo Kim. When he finally gets to meet his son and fiance in person. A truly riveting story from start to finish.

Saying Goodbye to the Phenom Vitor Belfort

Vitor Belfort retires from Mixed martial Arts.

Vitor Belfort Officially Retires After 21 Years

Depending on how long you have been around the sport of mixed martial arts. A fighter such as Vitor Belfort could represent a number of things. To some, he could the ferocious young Phenom from Brazil. Who while still a teenager, was fighting much larger men in the now-defunct open weight divisions of the UFC.

Taking on and defeating guys who were meant to destroy the young upstart. Fighters like Scott ‘The Pitbull’ Ferrozzo and David ‘Tank’ Abbot. Men who held the upper hand in terms of sheer size and power. But who could not handle the speed and ferociousness Belfort’s onslaught would bring.

Vitor would hold the upper hand throughout much of his early career. Stopping most of his opponents with strikes. It wasn’t until he came up the very best of the best, that Belfort would taste defeat. First falling foul of UFC Hall of Famer Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture at UFC 15.

Young Vitor Belfort walkout.More wins including a 44 second TKO of Wanderlei Silva and a move to Pride Fighting Championships. Was quickly followed by a loss to Pride legend Kazushi Sakuraba. Belfort’s next 5 fights in Pride were all wins.  Before he once again made his return to the UFC.

Return to the UFC

In 2002, Vitor took on fan favourite Chuck Liddell, losing via unanimous decision. Over the next few years he would go on to see unbelievable highs in winning the UFC light heavyweight title. And lows, losing the belt just nine months later.

Belfort’s sister Priscila went missing in 2004. With her friend finally admitting in August 2007, to her kidnap and murder. It was a time in someone’s life no one should have to go through. And no doubt played a huge negative role in Vitor’s life and career.

Throughout the period from 2007, right up to 2015, Vitor would only lose in title fights. First to former teammate Anderson Silva for the middleweight belt. Then to light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 152. And then again at UFC 187, against Chris Weidman and another shot at middleweight gold.

Belfort’s Suspension for TRT

Vitor Belfort steroid abuse. You cannot write about the career of Vitor Belfort, without mentioning his suspension for use of testosterone. And the many subsequent accusations of cheating throughout his career. But in a sport such an MMA, where now so many of our great fighters have been shown or been suspected of cheating. Let him without sin cast the first stone.

There can be little doubting Vitor’s standing in a mixed martial arts Hall of Fame. And with that the UFC Hall of Fame. Through all the trials and tribulations, he has been there almost from the very start.

21 years at the top in such a brutal and unforgiving sport. 21 years of always being there or thereabouts. It’s a feat very few will ever achieve in any realm of professional competition. They called him The Phenom when he burst on to the scene all those many years ago. And The Phenom he will remain.
