Cris Cyborg #1 Featherweight by ESPN and Fox Sports vacates Invicta FC Belt wants UFC Anaheim
Currently Ranked #1 in WMMA at 145lbs Featherweight and the Pound for Pound rankings by both sports Industry leaders ESPN and Fox Sports. Cris Cyborg publicly vacated her Invicta FC championship belt March 25th, 2017.
After 3 successful 145lbs Invicta FC and #1 World Ranking title defenses while signed to the UFC. Cris Cyborg became the first World Champion in MMA to compete at a weight lighter than the division they currently are ranked #1 in.
Following the success of Cris Cyborg’s two UFC Superfights in Brazil. The Ultimate Fighting Championship has introduced the 145lbs division.
In the #1 contender bout the UFC had Holly Holm move up a weight class after two consecutive losses at 135lbs to face former Muay Thai Champion Germaine De Randamie. Who lost to Bellator FC Featherweight Champion Julia Budd in 2011 and had not fought at 145lbs. Since her 2012 decision victory against Strikeforce FC veteran Hiroko Yamanaka before leaving the 145lbs division to compete at Bantamweight. GDR won a controversial decision against Holly Holm and with earning the win upon her return to the division. Earned the #1 contender fight and the opportunity to fight Cris Cyborg next.
With Notable wins against Gina Carano, Marloes Coenen, Leslie Smith, Daria Ibragimova, Lina Lansberg, Shayna Baszler, Vanessa Porto, Jan Finney, Hitomi Akano, and Yoko Takahashi. Cris Cyborg has remained unbeaten for over 10 years capturing both the Invicta FC and Strikeforce 145lbs World Championship belts. While maintaining her World #1 Ranking according to ESPN and Fox Sports.
July 29th Cris Cyborg has stated it is her wish to return to the UFC for an opportunity to defend her #1 world ranking against Germaine De Randamie. The UFC has determined GDR is the #1 contender to Cyborg’s World Ranking. Cyborg would like to fight at UFC Anaheim when the UFC returns to Southern California.
