Gökhan Saki – Skill Breakdown / Film Study / Highlights *NEW* UFC
Gökhan Saki – ‘Welcome to the UFC’
In recent MMA News Gokhan Saki has announced / confirmed that he has bypassed signing with Glory Kickboxing, in order to sign with the UFC. Details have yet to come to surface, but one thing can be a fairly certain….expect fireworks!
Old-School fans of high-level striking (K1 / Glory) have been pining for a chance to see a (likely USADA friendly) proven, championship caliber striker in the UFC. With Saki we get to see someone who has beaten some of the very best HW’s in the world compete at 205 in MMA / the UFC. ‘Turkish Tyson’ is an aggressive pressure fighter out of Mike’s Gym known for his hand speed and power.
For this one I will obviously get a bit deeper than ‘The Rebel’s’ speed or power, and show some of the nuanced strike selection and brilliant punches in bunches sequencing that has made Saki such a terrifying stand-up fighter over the last decade or so.
So while his grappling is entirely a question mark for now, let’s focus on the positive and hope we get to see one of the best strikers on the planet wearing 4 oz. gloves. Cheers.

The former champion Jon Jones vs the current champ Daniel Cormier. Is one of the most engaging feuds in the UFC today. The two light heavyweight champions despise each other and have been exchanging barbs and insults for over 2 years. Here’s a selection of some of the very best, much of which is hilarious!
Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee – Don’t ever talk about my Mom REMIX
The recent UFC Summer Kickoff conference certainly kicked off, in more ways than one. The annual event sets out the UFC fight calendar for the following Summer months. Giving fans an overview of what to expect, as the promotion builds toward the yearly Fight Week in Las Vegas in July. Which showcases the both the UFC and the sport itself. One of the lets say, less anticipated main events, pitches Michael Chiesa against fellow lightweight Kevin Lee at UFC Fight Night 112.
Both fighters got into a heated argument, followed by some fisticuffs. After Lee commented that Chiesa’s mom had managed to wrangle some tickets for the fight. Something the Ultimate Fighter 15 winner didn’t appreciate. The Don’t ever talk about my Mom REMIX captures what took place in its own unique way.
On UFC 212 Embedded 2, featherweight champion Jose Aldo reaches peak condition surrounded by familiar faces. Energized by the return to her native country, top strawweight Claudia Gadelha fits a commercial photo shoot into her busy schedule. Polish strawweight Karolina Kowalkiewicz enjoys the Brazilian outdoors, from a rooftop workout to a shopping trip on the beach. And interim featherweight champion Max Holloway combines training and sightseeing on a scenic hike.
119 wins by age 18, Tenshin Nasukawa is a not just a highly skilled warrior, but a child prodigy. Thank you for joining me on this special segment where we take a deeper look into this young mans fighting style.
“An amateur record of 99-5, professional record 17-0, 13 of which ko’s and a rizin mma record of 3-0, all amassed at the age of 18, indicating that Tenshin Nasukawa is probably still in high school if not just out of. That’s insane. Those are the kinds of stats you see in an anime exaggerating the main character, and with his fancy hair, I’m pretty he’s on his way to being serialised in one. As unreal as that may sound, this kid is the real deal and the reasons why are transparent even at first glance. Let’s dive a little deeper in our understanding of this child prodigy.
Fighting Style
Lawrence kenshin mentioned that Tenshin’s fighting style was a high level of kickboxing and muay Thai, but tapology indicates his core style is actually Kyokushin karate. He does have the capacity to mix up his combinations fluidly with knees and elbows, but he definitely looks more karate in his sense for rhythm and lightness, even throwing flashier high skills kicks known in kyukoshin, like the rolling thunder or Kyokushin wheel kick.
Definitely spinning back kicks and such in his mix up as well, he’s this mix of technical prowess and flash all done so clean, so seamlessly, effortlessly, it looks normal, like he isn’t even trying, that it’s just a natural expression of his being… What’s even more incredible, is the why strikes, it’s almost as if the art and science of boxing is being used at that high level in all of his strikes, kicks and all… That ability to understand rhythm, feel and exploit the half beat with devastating speed yet surgical precision… Reading reactions with each strike, attuning the next strike based upon the first, with a firm understanding of feints, and a near instantaneous reaction for counter punches… Tenshin is a prodigy who at 18 is a whole package stand up fighter… Precise, fluid, light on his feet, blinding speed, with a recovery time in between each of his strikes just as incredible as the speed of his execution, all tightly knit in crisp, clean technical form.
Tenshin is also a southpaw which may also partially explain his fighting capacity. Southpaws have an inherent advantage in combat simply because of their novelty, there’s less of them. This essentially means on average we will have less experience training with someone who uses a southpaw stance, and because their striking philosophy has differences vs Orthodox, they will have a slight if not great knowledge advantage over their opponents, whilst the southpaw has a sea of orthodox fighters to refine their style, their philosophy against.
Also, because the lead foot is typically blocked by the opponent’s lead foot, it’s harder to step in with a jab, alongside the opponent’s lead hand also blocking yours, but due to the dynamic of how we conventionally guard, with a southpaw, you both also become more open to each others power hands, to which the southpaw who has more experience, is given that edge in increased KO potential. In a game of inches, that could mean meters based upon the experience of the opponent.
Mental Game
When I look at tenshin, I see a super computer. He is completely unemotional. He has the same face as faker playing an impossibly high skill cap computer game, but Tenshin is doing it in the high stakes world of unarmed combat, a world full of real consequences… That Calm is what gives him his fluidity, allows his clean technical prowess, his ability to articulately solve the problem before him based upon what each moment calls, quickly, yet efficiently… Without it, that mind of absolute pure ice, tenshin would not be what he is, a genius.”
SUDDENLY THE LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION LOOKS EXCITING AGAIN
The 205lb division in the UFC has always been the flag bearer of the brand, from Chuck Liddell through to Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Forrest Griffin, Rampage Jackson and in recent years Jon Jones; it has always been one of the most competitive and exciting divisions. In recent years however the challenges the division has faced include perennial ageing contenders, the loss of top-level contenders Phil Davis and Ryan Bader to Bellator, and crucially a lack of talented fighters to break into the top 10…
Whilst longer term the division still looks to have a lack of young up and coming top-level fighters, in the short to medium term it seems that a mini tournament for the title has begun to take shape. It is amazing how one fight can lead to multiple match-ups being made, but last night’s bout in Stockholm did just that. Whilst it wasn’t as clinical or as devastating as Anthony Johnson’s quick KO of Glover Texiera last year, Alexander Gustaffson’s array of strikes for a near full 5 rounds of action proved he was back to his best, peppering Texiera with combinations of elbows, hooks and a devastating uppercut he seemed to find time and time again. Is Gustaffson ready to meet the winner of Cormier versus Jones? Not in my personal opinion – I feel Jimi Manuwa is the worthy (and fresh) challenger, with a style that causes both Cormier and Jones real problems.
To step into Sean Shelby’s shoes the next logical matchups look like this –
Gustaffson versus Oezdemir is a bout that makes sense for both men – in Gustaffson’s case should he win, it cements his place as the next title challenger at his 3rd attempt at the strap. There is already a background in place as he has history with all 3 men involved in the potential title tilt of Cormier, Jones and Manuwa. Volkan Oezdemir arrival to the upper tier of title challengers was announced last night as he impressively knocked out fellow rising contender, Misha Cirkunov. Whilst it was likely the UFC’s matchmakers hope to set up Cirkunov as the next rising challenger, the fact Oezdemir played spoiler isn’t the worst thing to happen. A win against Gustaffson could really send shockwaves across the division and also give it a much-needed shot of adrenalin with a relatively young (27 years old) up and comer whose fighting style could cause some real problems.
On the flipside, the hype train of Misha Cirkunov seems to have derailed for the time being. Cirkunov was, unfortunately, a victim of being too eager to impress and in his striking exchange with Oezdemir he was unlucky to be clipped behind the ear on his way to a TKO loss. Nothing changes drastically for him, as he was always likely 3 more wins away from a title shot, so the sensible option here is to meet Glover Texiera towards the end of this year once both men have been medically cleared to fight. It would prove an acid test for both men. Glover, in particular, seems to have well and truly moved out of the contender category, but last night’s bout with Gustaffson he truly gave everything of himself. A fight between could be seen as a crossroads for both men.
Add Gokhan Saki to the mix and suddenly 205 looks like it has a batch up of very exciting matchups and hopefully a few intriguing rematches to come to fruition! Long may this continue!!!

We are about to leave the first half of the MMA calendar and from a UFC perspective, it has been underwhelming, to say the least.
A lack of packed cards, lots of poor matchmaking and realistically bar the excellent UFC 211 there doesn’t seem to be any hope this will change in 2017 and beyond.
While Conor McGregor chases the Floyd Mayweather fight, along with the long-term hiatus/retirement of Ronda Rousey and the unreliability of Jon Jones, the UFC badly craves a star on a par with the aforementioned trio. I do believe that there are at least a handful of other competitors within the brand who deserve some of the marketing rub – yet worryingly both the world’s largest talent agency and the world’s premier MMA organisation don’t really seem to be grasping this key ingredient in the 21st century fight game. Since WME-IMG bought the UFC a cost-cutting regime has been apparent, both on the operational and talent side of the business. Massive redundancies began almost immediately after the takeover as they looked to recoup some of the gargantuan figure they spent on the brand back in 2016.
When I first learned of WME-IMG’s plan to buy the UFC it made me remember of an interview with Dana White and his proclamations of “This sport will become bigger than soccer”. The value of UFC brand emphasised this and with WME-IMG influence it could definitely come to fruition. However, it’s been nearly 10 months since the takeover and the initial warm, fuzzy feelings of excitement are now met with concern and dread of which direction the sport is heading in. Is it still too early to be thinking so doom and gloom? Perhaps. But ask any passionate MMA fan if they remain as optimistic now as they did in July 2016 and I would bet they would have the same sense of bewilderment. The UFC seems to be going through a transitional period, not unlike the early 2000’s – some injection or event is needed to give the brand a much-needed shock of adrenaline and bring it back to life. Changes were always going to be made, but from an outsider perspective, it seems like a lot of public relations faux pas have been made consistently!
Mike Goldberg’s departure highlighted this greatly. A man who gave 20 years to the organisation only to be turfed out and cast aside after a stellar career is another situation that could have and should have been handled much differently. Surely offering a highlight reel after ‘Goldie’s’ last broadcast or tribute via fight pass would have left fans and the man himself a greater send off?
In recent months not a day goes by where a disgruntled fighter speaks out through the press or social media and I foresee that this continue for the year ahead and more upheaval will continue as WME – IMG starts to mould the business in their vision. Expect more interim titles, more ‘money fights ‘that have no bearing on the rankings and likely more uninspired fights cards. After watching the “UFC Summer Kick-off” news conference and a lot fighter’s attempt to incorporate some “WWE-like” antics, I go back to my opening statement and being left slightly underwhelmed.
International Fight Week has tended to be UFC’s version of Wrestlemania, a week dedicated to the fans, with 2 or 3 events crammed into the week culminating with a big PPV. Last year was UFC 200, which on paper was action-packed, the year before we had Conor crowned as interim champ. The summer cards have always offered big main events along with an excellent line-up of fights. This year we have Nunes v Shevchenko and Garbrandt v Cody – both fights are excellent showcases in MMA and real 50/50 fights; however, there is no marquee bout to get the blood pumping and here lies the problem, there are no fights around at this moment to incorporate the mainstream…Unfortunately, it also coincides with the absence of McGregor and Rousey.
It is a different MMA world to the one back in 1993 and the sport has gone through massive changes, but what has made MMA such an enthralling sport since its inception is the sheer unpredictability nature of the business; the road ahead is unknown but the passion of the fans in unwavering. Long may this continue!

The outlining tactical objective is to provide more permanent levels of protection in structural compartments (safe zones), from which firefighters may operate in a myriad of fire and rescue roles.
Stipe Miocic is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion. As of April 2017, he is ranked 6th p4p in the UFC. Along with Randy Couture, Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, and Tim Sylvia, Miocic holds the record for most UFC Heavyweight championship defences.
He is a former Cleveland Golden Gloves boxing champion and NCAA Division I wrestler at Cleveland State. Miocic began his MMA career by winning his first five fights by knockout. He then fought for NAAFS winning the NAAFS Heavyweight Championship by defeating Bobby Brents by submission.
His record is 17-2 with 13 KO’s and 1 Submission. Stipe has great footwork and is quicker and more angular than most if not all HW’s in MMA. He uses all of this ring savvy to get past kicks, into boxing range, where he usually has the advantage.
Infighting and short-punching are a good test a fighters striking skills. The margin for error is nil and you, if developed, can do damage while maintaining a solid defence.
When infighting, the short range right hook is absolutely vital, especially when used in conjunction with other short range shots Watch HW great Evander Holyfield and you’ll see how adept he was at delivering the short range right with speed and also George Foreman for power. The short 4 is one of the most powerful punches that an orthodox fighter can throw.
As with many other shots, the art of delivering the short range right hook is relaxation and economy of motion combined with an explosive drive from the legs. Take careful note of the mechanics of the shot.
