Skill Builder: The Jab - Variance and Efficacy

Skill Builder: The Jab – Variance and Efficacy

Jab Index / Types of Jab (s)

Feints / Fakes and Piston Pumping –

These are all forms of jabs that aren’t. A feint can be as simple as a shoulder or hand twitch toward the opponent with the jab hand. Fakes are often a semi-pronating lead hand not intended to land, but to, as it sounds, serve as a fake to manipulate an opponent’s defense. Piston pumping is often multiple feints or fakes and normally followed by an actual jab. This serves nicely in closing distance, or creating favorable/beneficial angles while putting your opponent to their heels via overreaction.

Defensive / Backward Jab –

Simple conceptually, difficult in execution (throwing a jab while moving backward). Like the rangefinder and framing jabs this jab creates distance in your favor and to the opponents detriment. Often times this will keep a pressure fighter off pace, and also set up 2’s on incoming fighters.

Intercepting Jab:

This is also defensive in theory, but can be used as a tremendous addition to your offense as well. GGG is one of the kings of this technique which involves using your non-jab to intercept the opponents while simultaneously throwing your own.

Power / Thai Jab –

Covers distance via explosive movement off of rear foot.

This jab propels the entire body forward via fleet feet and has power due to your torque and body weight. It can be used as a good way to break the guard up to follow with subsequent strikes.

This jab often coincides with the level change jab as your body often springs from a seated position into it.

Step Through / Switch Jab –

The switch jab, often seen in MMA by TJ Dillashaw, and in boxing by Kovalev, GGG, and Hagler, has your rear foot stepping through your front. It is usually thrown from the 30-45 degree angle in order to not square your hips to opponent, making counters easy.

This is another powerful and jab and great way to set up subsequent strikes, especially awkward angled kicks. Think of Wonderboy’s debut finisher. The Superman Jab is another good example of this sentiment / technique.

Pivot / Coil Jab –

This is a powerful jab often employed by Tyson in his prime. It is somewhere between a hook and uppercut and often without turning your punch over. There are a million names, and a ton of variance to this punch, but generally it is thrown from your coinciding hip, after a coinciding semi-crouch. It is explosive and works well symbiotically with head movement.

Pop / Up / Vertical Jab –

I often call this the Roy Jones Jr. jab (which we’ve seen recently from Robert Whitaker and a few others) though in his case it is normally from a draped arm, rather than just hiding / coming from a lower position / guard. Ali threw this type jab at times as well. Like the pivot jab it is often used as a speedy guard disrupter via not turning over the hand.

Circular Jab –

This really could just be called the Ali jab, as it is a combination of the defensive and the flick jab.

As Ali would circle to his own left he would often confuse his opponent with this jab along with stop and go misdirection.

Framing / Pawing jab –

Used to create space defensively, usually aimed at the opponents center of mass moving backward, or as a distraction moving forward which if not fully pronated, is more of a fake to change the eye line and / or invite counter strikes.

As a frame it is usually used to begin or end a combination. In MMA it is important not to keep the arm out for any significant duration, as it invites counters itself.

Flick / Backhand Jab –

This jab is often thrown at the guard of the opponent to disrupt cadence and often invites counters as well. The backhand jab is more akin to one Floyd Mayweather would throw from the shell, connecting with your actual backhand rather than your knuckles.

Sometimes this will follow a slipped 3 to maintain balance, or as a fake to setup a “through” 2.

Level Change / Body Jab –

Though they aren’t necessarily the same, they are symbiotic. Jabbing the body is important, especially as a means to wear an opponent down, and/or bring down their head. This is often followed by a rear 6 (uppercut), or overhand 4.

In the case of level changing, it’s sometimes best used as a double jab, either high to low or low to high. This is one of your very best weapons vs. an opponent that throws a lot of round punches, especially overhands and (directly opposing arm) hooks. *One of the “keys to efficacy” with this jab is creating range to path, and to escape.*

Hammer Jab –

In MMA we often call this a hammerfist due to it’s efficacy amidst ground striking. This is seldom seen in MMA, or boxing for that matter and is the opposite of an upjab. This comes from a high guard, down, either to break a guard or to aim at the nose of the opponent. Finding footage of this should be fun.

Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor - Post Fight Analysis - Coach Zahabi

Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor Coach Zahabi Analysis

Coach Firas Zahabi gives us his post fight breakdown for Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor. Following on from his first post fight thoughts. He now answers the most popular questions and comments from fans. And gives us his thoughts on boxing fans vs MMA fans in terms of negativity toward the other sport.

Coach Zahabi gives his thoughts on Conor’s game plan. And how his putting too much on his shots led to him gassing out in the later rounds. Firas also talks about how Mayweather walked forward during the fight. And that before the fight, Floyd had said that he wanted to give the fans an entertaining fight. How he wanted to make it up to the fans for the Pacman fight.

He talks about how and why Conor could not maintain that same pace from the beginning of the fight. He simply not trained to punch that much over that length of time. Firas breaks down McGregor’s punching power, adding that it’s not simply about who punches the hardest in the fight.

He also talks about McGregor tying up Floyd in the clinch. He believes that it was McGregor forcing Floyd to turn his back and not Mayweather turning. A really nice technique by all accounts.

McGregor vs Mayweather Rematch? Conor Cut Too Much Weight? - Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan – McGregor vs Mayweather, Conor cut too much weight

Joe Rogan talks about the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather fight with Hannibal Buress and says he’d be surprised if there’s wasn’t rematch. With so much money at stake, Joe reckons that if they could make it interesting enough for fans, who knows! But would Floyd come out of retirement again for more money?

Rogan also thinks that McGregor would have a good chance at beating Mayweather this time around. If he could only sort his cardio endurance and minimise his chances of gassing yet again. The guys also talk about whether or not Conor cut too much weight. And if that was a contribution to him gassing out later in the fight.

Although it was a good fight by all accounts and both men put on a great display for the millions watching. Does the idea of them doing it again seem all that interesting?

At this point, McGregor needs to go and defend his title as the UFC lightweight Champion. With contenders lining up and an interim belt being fought for. There comes a time when what people want to do, versus what should be done, come s to a head.

Conor McGregor vs Mayweather "They Were Setting Him Up" Says Chael Sonnen

Conor McGregor vs Mayweather “They Were Setting Him Up”

Chael Sonnen talks about the atrocious scoring by the judges at Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor super fight. With two of the judges only giving McGregor 1 round. While the many respected boxing pundits and fellow fighters, gave him 3 and even four of the rounds. Yet nothing will be done to remedy the situation because boxing is so corrupt. And this my friends is why the sport is dying.

Chael talks about the bet he had with Brendan Schaub. Betting against Conor taking more than one round. With a guy who has never lost, facing a guy who has never boxed professionally. Sonnen saw it as easy money. And seeing as the bookies would not take the bet. After watching the fight Chael brought the 100k bet money to Schaub to pay off his bet. Except Chael heard that the judges only gave McGregor one round!

Chael says he didn’t feel right taking the money as that is not what happened.  And Schaub was the same! Neither guy wanted to take the others as they both knew Conor had won more than the judges gave him, so it just wasn’t right.

Sonnen says that it was an amazing performance by Conor. And even Floyd turning his back and Conor’s illegal rabbit punches to the back of the head. It turned into a street fight he says and he liked it. Even Teddy Atlas who was sitting beside Chael gave up to four of the first six to McGregor, saying

“He’s never been in there with a street fighter”

Atlas was sure Floyd would make a comeback. But at the same time was surprised by how McGregor handled himself inside the ring. Some kid from Ireland who decided to throw on some gloves and box the very best in the world.

Compubox then saying how Conor landed 111 punches in 10 rounds. While the great Manny Pacquiao only landed 100 punches in a 12 round fight. The guy can box!

Now looking forward Chael reckons the next thing for Conor will be a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz towards the end of December. And yes, he has inside information on that!

Chris Van Heerden Giving Conor McGregor Props for His Performance

Former sparring partner to Conor McGregor Chris Van Heerden giving him huge respect & props. For his odds defying performance against Floyd Mayweather. Van Herden joined a chorus of boxers before the fight stating that he felt McGregor would not be able to hang with the p4p great. But, surprisingly to him, he did very well. And Chris never saw the fight possibly going for full ten rounds. He was even surprised by some of the shots Conor was able to pull off as Mayweather came marching forward.

Floyd Mayweather was Just Toying with Conor McGregor says Jeff Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather Toying with Conor McGregor

Boxing coach Jeff Mayweather recaps the fight between nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr. And UFC Champion Conor McGregor, which saw Mayweather win by 10th round TKO. Jeff doesn’t pull any punches and feels that Floyd could have stopped the fight whenever he wanted. His main focus was to give the fans a good fight and he succeeded in doing just that.

Jeff feels that he wasn’t overly impressed by McGregor and knew all along that Floyd would eventually get the stoppage. He is asked if Floyd would consider returning the favour and meeting McGregor inside the octagon. It’s not something he sees happening and even if it did, Floyd may still have a chance to knock him out. But once McGregor starts to land some of those kicks, everything changes.

All in all Uncle Jeff was very happy with the result. Being that he predicted the outcome from the get go. As expected Floyd will now ride off into the sunset, several hundred million dollars richer. While there is no doubting that the fight only added to the mystique of the Irishman McGregor. The question now on the minds of MMA fans is, who next for the lightweight Campion?

What's next for Conor McGregor?

Conor Mcgregor press conference.

Conor McGregor: What’s next?

So the dust has settled on the biggest money match of the modern era, Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor by 10th round TKO to the shock of basically nobody. Conor performed very well. Far better than I expected, gaining four rounds on my card. He didn’t do quite as well as some in more Conor-biased positions are claiming; nor did he do as badly as the boxing bores are suggesting.

Conor lands on Floyd Mayweather.

Floyd took a few rounds to gauge what he was facing before really engaging. In those rounds, Conor proved three things:

  1. He could box

  2. He could move like a boxer

  3. He didn’t possess anywhere near the punching power in boxing that we’ve seen from him in MMA

Mayweather adjusted to his opposition, put some necessary rounds in the bank before smelling blood and going in for the kill. The stoppage was a little early, but did nothing other than delay the inevitable.

The judges’ scorecards were absurd and immensely harsh on Conor. Floyd landed 6 punches in both the first and second rounds, and yet managed to win them in the eyes of a world championship level judge under the jurisdiction of the top athletic commission in the USA. Floyd Mayweather, apparently such a master of his craft that he can win rounds without actually doing anything.

Anyway, what’s done is done. Let’s analyse where ‘The Notorious’ goes from here.

Retire:

Floyd Mayweather post fight presser.

Conor has likely made in the region of $100m for the Mayweather fight. Mayweather Promotion’s Leonard Ellerbe suggesting the PPV numbers were “looking very good” when asked immediately post-fight. That money added to the tens of millions he’s earned in previous UFC appearances (remember those numbers don’t include PPV cuts there, either) is more than enough for him to retire. Conor could star in movies, promote his own events, make appearances. He could do whatever he wants. This is the most boring option, but it’s certainly on the table for the Irishman if he decides he’s had enough.

Return to the UFC:

There are a number of fights available for the two time UFC Champion. Dana said earlier in the summer that Conor still wanted to defend his UFC title “this year”, and whilst that seems unlikely, there are many fights available for him in the UFC. The most obvious of those, considering Conor is the reigning Lightweight champion, would be to fight the interim champion. That will be either Tony Ferguson or Kevin Lee, depending on who comes out on top between those two at UFC 216 in Vegas on October 7th.

However, I don’t think either of those two represent a big enough money fight for McGregor, and both present huge risks, as highly skilled lightweights with well-rounded skill sets. No, that’s not a smart move for Conor to make right now considering the other choices available. I think we’re looking at three options if we’re to see ‘The Notorious’ back in the cage in his next fight.

Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor 1.

The first of those, (and the one I think will happen) is the trilogy fight with Nate Diaz. It all seems to be lining up. Nate was on hand on Saturday night, watching the fight from the audience, and calling Brendan Schaub a bitch backstage. Audie Attar, Conor’s manager, said in an interview after the fight that Conor wants that trilogy fight”.

Whilst Conor himself said “I have certainly many contenders in the mixed martial arts game,” in his press conference after the fight, going on to say “I have a trilogy bout with Nate Diaz that’s sitting there, I have options.” Infamous insider Chael Sonnen has further stoked the fire today on the MMA Hour, saying “A little inside information, I think it’s Nate Diaz next” I mean it’s inevitable eventually, right?

Another option would be to combine two of the biggest PPV draws in UFC history in a historic bout at Welterweight, and ask Conor to welcome Georges St. Pierre back to the Welterweight division. This one works for a number of reasons; both fighters have a huge following, it’s an easy sell regardless of the GSP result against Bisping as he would be returning to the weight at which he had such success.

If Bisping retains, the ConorGSP fight still does close to 2 million buys. If GSP were to beat Bisping, I think this could be top 5 biggest PPVs full stop. Sometimes there’s just so much money on the table that you can’t say no.

UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley.

The third and final viable option, in my opinion, is the Welterweight title fight. There have long been whisperings of the McGregorTyron Woodley fight, however, nothing serious has ever really materialised. An undoubtedly challenging option for Conor, Tyron Woodley might be the hardest fight out there for him at the moment.

A big, powerful and lightning fast 170lber with great wrestling and enough power to knock out a rhino, this would be another level for McGregor. However, from a PPV sales point of view, combining McGregor with the underdog effect worked very well with the Mayweather situation, why not go back to the well?

Of course, after his performance against Demian Maia and Dana’s subsequent furious criticism of it, gifting the Welterweight champion the biggest money fight in the sport seems unlikely. However, the pull for Conor to become Champ Champ Champ must be strong.

Continue Boxing:

Conor could conceivably continue on in the boxing world, content with the money he made and the promotional freedom it brings. Though UFC President Dana White urged Conor to forge about boxing and return to the UFC, the option to remain in the squared circle remains.Conor McGregor lands on Paulie Malignaggi.

Whilst I don’t see Conor stepping in the ring with a Canelo Alvarez or anything, there is no doubt that the Paulie Malignaggi situ captured enough attention to warrant a look at the situation.

Paulie was brought in as a sparring partner, and from then on it all got a bit WWE, with Paulie quitting due to being made to look bad in sparring photos, an edited sparring video came out, and then it all ended with Floyd Mayweather claiming Paulie was a TMT spy in the McGregor camp all along (he wasn’t).

Paulie Malignaggi can talk, the build is already there and I’m sure the fight could do significant PPV, if not quite on Mayweather levels.

Main Event Wrestlemania:

Brock Lesnar vs Conor McGregor?

Curveball I know, and I really am shooting straight from the hip here and I haven’t read a thing about this, but a match at Wrestlemania with Brock Lesnar seems to be made in heaven. Aside from Floyd Mayweather, Lesnar and McGregor are the top two active PPV draws in the US, and in the WWE environment could do massive business.

Wrestling fans, unlike the boxing bores will welcome Conor with open arms. No strangers to guest appearances from mainstream stars, the wrestling fans will be as happy to have McGregor interacting with Lesnar, HHH and Paul Heyman now, as they were to have ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson interacting with DX and Stone Cold Steve Austin in ’98.

This, of course, remains unlikely, but Conor having the biggest PPV in the history of MMA, boxing and pro wrestling would likely be a legacy that would be simply untouchable.

Joey Diaz's Edible Moment - JRE Toon

Joey Diaz Edible Story on JRE Toon

Joey Diaz recounting yet another moment on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. Diaz is a guy who is known for doing things to excess. In this instance, he recounts the story about finding an edible brownie in his pocket. Now an edible brownie in this instance means a brownie laced with marijuana. But only 70 milligrams, who for someone like Joey is considered small potatoes. as he says himself.

“I rub my balls with 70 milligrams”

He then follows on by telling us that only last night he gave his buddy 500!!! To which Joe Rogan nearly loses his mind. Splitting a 1000 mg at 3 o’clock in the afternoon with his friend Lee. By 7, Joey was completely gone. By eight O’clock the edible turned on him like a savage and beat him into submission. He then proceeded to stuff any random bits of food he could find around the house into his face.

He says that he couldn’t stop himself. Peaches pears and pirates booty, rinse and repeat. Joey had his back turned to his wife so she couldn’t see him. His wife wanted to know what the hell he was playing at and Joey quickly headed off to bed.

Hitting the sack at 8.45pm, he woke up at 4 am and didn’t know where he was and with a tonne of energy. He managed to do a load of house work. Before calling his friend Lee, telling him that if the cops rang him not to answer the phone. Before hanging up and leaving his friend wondering what the hell is going on! Basically turning him into a nervous wreck while he had to deal with the effects of the horse tranquilizer sized edible portion.

Joey has always got some crazy story to keep people entertained. While we get another wicked animation by PaulyToon from the Joe Rogan Experience podcast #669.

Max Kellerman Comes Out from Underneath His Rock

Max Kellerman and Stephen A. Smith says the Mayweather vs. McGregor Stopped Too Soon

Stephen A. Smith on First Take, with his co host Max Kellerman. Breaking down the ending of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight. Which Stephen believes was stopped too soon. Smith feels that an MMA fighter is used to tougher conditions than a boxer. So, as a result, he feels the fight was stopped too early.

Stephen A felt that even though he could see McGregor was going to lose and that the fight would be stopped. He still feels that it was stopped too soon. And it should have been let go until McGregor was put down. That way it would have been more of a definitive ending to the fight.

He understands why the referee did it and that it wasn’t a flagrant stoppage. If it had been another boxer then he would have understood the fight being called.

Max Kellerman on How Context Matters

Max Kellerman believes that context matters. McGregor is a champion in his own right and he acquitted himself very well against a p4p legend in boxing. Kellerman feels that if it had been early in the fight then he could understand it may have looked like an early stoppage. The fight is still competitive. But it was the tenth round, Conor was gassed and he had to cut weight to make the fight. That affected his performance.

Both guys agree Conor was not going to win. so at that point, it became about satisfying the fans and satisfying Conor. So at that moment, it is up to the referee or his corner to protect the fighter against himself.

And although Smith saw McGregor being dazed and taking punches in the 9th and 10th rounds. Floyd was missing a lot of punches in the subsequent 8 rounds of the fight. So he doesn’t feel Conor was taking a savage beating up to that point. And so for him, he believes the fight should have been let go a while longer.

Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor McGregor Full Fight Highlights

Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor McGregor Full Fight

And then it was done. In what can only be described as a historic night in combat sports history. Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor via TKO stoppage in the 10th round of the scheduled 12 round fight. The action took place at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In front of one of the highest grossing audience in sports history. As Mayweather claimed his 50th victory inside the ring. Maintaining his unbeaten record as a professional boxer. And surpassing the boxing record of boxing heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano.

Conor McGregor had been written off by many before the fight. But when it came down to the doing, the Irishman surprised many of his critics with a largely professional display, taking the fight to 10 rounds. And in many peoples eyes, including two of the judges. Taking a number of rounds from the future boxing Hall of Famer Mayweather.

McGregor got off to a flying start, throwing a flurry of punches at the 40-year-old. And scored points early in the fight. As the fight progressed, Mayweather began to assert himself on the waining UFC Champion. McGregor looked fresh past the halfway point in the bout. But Mayweather’s experience in Championship 12 round fights began to show. As he began to up the pressure and start walking down the Irishman.

McGregor did display some of the theatrics he is known for, at one point even putting his hands behind his back. But as the 10th round approached, you could sense that he was finally beginning to swing the fight in his favour.

McGregor becomes fatigued

Again, the fatigue forced McGregor to cover up. As he began to take a number of unanswered punches from Mayweather. The referee Robert Byrd had seen enough and stepped in to stop the fight.

All in all, a very enjoyable fight and you cannot knock the performances given by the UFC Champion. Compubox tells us that in the 10 rounds, McGregor landed only a handful of punches less than Canelo Alvarez. And more than the great Manny Pacquiao. So congratulations to both fighters for an entertaining and historic fight.

Floyd Mayweather Sr Talks About Floyd Mayweather Jr ‘s as a Child

Floyd Mayweather Sr. talks with Amer Abdallah about the childhood of his son Floyd Mayweather Jr. he discusses what kind of childhood the multi time world champion had, outside of the ring. With a father and uncles who were both famous boxers. How was he treated in the neighbourhood by his peers. And did Floyd get into any fights outside of his boxing training?

Senior goes into detail about what type of child Floyd was. And he would take him around to the bars and clubs in the stroller, showing him off to his friends. While the young Floyd would mimic his fathers fighting style, even as a baby.

Floyd Senior talks about how even as a young baby, only a few months old. He would get his son and start holding his arms like he was throwing punches. The one day, when Senior came home. He found Floyd doing the same thing all by himself. Throwing punches, just like his father had shown him.

Senior talks about how no one would believe him when he told them what his son would do. As everyone knows all father are proud of their son. Junior takes on MMA superstar Conor McGregor tonight in Las Vegas Nevada. In a boxing crossover mega fight which looks to break many records.

Final Showdown ► Conor McGregor Vs Floyd Mayweather Faceoff ● Analysis

Conor McGregor Vs Floyd Mayweather Faceoff ● Final Showdown ► Analysis

Well, it’s the calm before the storm would usually best describe the faceoff. But in this instance with Conor McGregor and Floyd “Money” Mayweather, it’s a storm in and of itself. We go inside the mind of McGregor as he details his own approach to the mental aspect of the sport.

Conor uses his perceived analysis of the way his opponent is feeling. So in his game of mental warfare, Conor gives his opponent more of the same to feel that way even more.

“Whether you call it mind games or whatever, I’m just getting an edge over everyone in there” – Conor McGregor

Knowing what he feels, he uses that to gain a mental edge over his opponents. Floyd has one of the strongest mental games in all combat. It can be seen in this instance as Conor and Floyd did their final face off. That toward the end of the process. Floyd began to flinch and seemed unable to find the words to fend off the aggressive Irishman.

Verbal warfare is something which has been used by many of the great fighters. It sometimes, however, does not work on certain people. Take the current bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt. During his fight with the reigning Champion Dominic Cruz. Garbrandt seems unfazed by Cruz’s in-fight verbal onslaught.

“I’m the best at trash talking, I’m also the best at backing it up” – Floyd Mayweather

However, we have never before seen Floyd under such an attack. Following their final faceoff. Mayweather showed just a glimpse of the inner emotions he was feeling. Something even the most talented of trash talkers finds hard to hide.

But who is to say how this will actually effect the fight itself? Floyd had been an undefeated fighter for his entire career. Now going into his final fight against an unknown quantity. Who will prevail?

Mayweather – McGregor: One writer’s Opinion on How it Could Play Out

Conor McGregor after winning.

Mayweather – McGregor: One writer’s opinion on how it could play out

So here it is. The article I really didn’t want to write. But I’ve been thinking about how I see it going over the last few weeks, so I figure I may as well turn that into something productive, rather than just drunken conversations in bars.

Like most combat sports writers, I have some very strong opinions on how this fight is gonna play out. Unlike most combat sports writers, I freely admit that I’m talking out of my arse for the most part, as we really have nothing to go on with regards to Conor. We don’t know his style, we don’t know his skillset, we don’t knowConor McGregor with two belts. his gas tank, and we don’t know what his strategy will be.

Despite all that, the case for Conor goes something like this. Firstly, Floyd Mayweather has had a reach advantage in almost all of his fights. He fought a 6”1 guy called Tony Pep back as a super feather in ’98 but I can’t find his reach. Other than that, it’s only ever been Oscar De La Hoya (who Floyd really struggled against). Conor will go into the fight with a 2 inch reach advantage, with 74” to 72”. Whether reach matters if he simply cannot lay a glove on Floyd however, is a different matter.

In addition to that, people will talk about Conor’s “power”*. This to me is a ridiculous point, as Floyd Mayweather has fought plenty of guys with strong knockout ratios, Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez. Fill in the blanks. There’s nothing to say Conor brings power up to 8oz gloves that is on par with what he can do with 4oz.

*I’ll just clarify – I’m not saying Conor can’t knock him out. He can. Conor McGregor can knock out anyone with the right shot. But I’m not in the business of giving credence Floyd Mayweather in the ring.to pundits pointing out that Conor has a punchers chance.

Quick side note – One thing I do know however, is that Conor’s MMA career reveals none of these answers. They are different sports. If you see anyone try to make a technical point on this fight using Conor’s MMA career as a reference, turn off that video, click off the article, change the channel, run out of the pub. Whatever it is, get those shitty opinions away from you as quickly as possible.

The other one you hear a lot is that “Floyd struggles with southpaws”. So let’s put this one to bed once and for all. Floyd Mayweather struggled with ‘a southpaw’. His name was Zab Judah. Floyd made the necessary adjustments, won a unanimous decision, and hasn’t faced problems on that level with any subsequent southpaw foes.

First interjection: Conor looked excellent in the sparring videos. He was far better than I could ever have expected. Slip, push, knockdown – whatever. None of that matters. Conor was pressurising and landing shots on a professional boxer. Whatever the circumstances, you can’t take that away from him.

Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather.

As a scribe and a supposed aficionado myself, I pay very close attention to boxing. I’ve done my research. I’ve watched everyone from Willie Pep to Pernell Whittaker, from Rigondeaux to Lomachenko, from Sugar Ray to Bernard Hopkins. My conclusion is this – Floyd Mayweather Jr is the greatest boxer ever to lace up a pair of gloves. His reactions, instincts and defensive mastery has allowed him to put together a 49-0 record in some of the most star-studded divisions in a peak era for lighter-weight fighters. He has a who’s who on his record and he has dispatched them all with only a handful of scares.

Second interjection: I do not believe that a novice martial artist, as talented a fighter as he may be, will be able to do what Shane Mosley, Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao couldn’t and straight outbox Floyd. I can’t imagine a world where that is possible.

I have to assume Conor’s people will believe the same thing. Therefore I have to assume they’re going to come up with a game plan. I believe Conor McGregor is going to start this fight with a thunderous pace, if not from round one (Floyd will likely be prepared for this strategy), I believe Conor will have a 3-4 round spell before the half way mark where he throws everything he has at Floyd and asks him to box at breakneck speed.

It is my view that if this fight passes the half way mark, Floyd Mayweather will be absolutely in control from that point onwards, if he isn’t already. Mayweather’s conditioning may not be better than Conor’s, but it doesn’t have to be – because he’s not the one boxing the greatest of all time. I think Conor must stop him before the 6th or 7th round if he is to win this fight.

McGregor and Floyd faceoff.

All of that being said, here are the ways I can see this fight going, ranked from least to most likely:

Conor McGregor wins by knockout inside the first 6 rounds:

As previously mentioned, I think this is going to be Conor’s game plan. And if he catches Floyd cold, we’ve all seen enough in the past to know that Conor’s left hand can put anyone away. I see this outcome as unlikely, but possible.

Draw: Engaging full tinfoil hat Alex Jones mode. If this happens, your whole world is a lie.

Floyd Mayweather wins on points: Regardless of how the fight plays out, hearing the bell would be an admirable result for Conor. Many people are predicting this outcome, and whilst I don’t agree, I could certainly see it as a possibility.

Floyd Mayweather wins by knockout inside the first 4 rounds: This is a legit possibility. Please don’t think it isn’t. I can conceivably see a world where the gulf in skill is so large, and obviously large, that Floyd doing anything other than putting him away would look phony. There is nothing in it for Floyd to simply outclass an 0-0 novice for 12 rounds the way he might to another world champion boxer. If the fight is very obviously there to be finished, Floyd will likely have to finish it.

Floyd Mayweather wins by stoppage in the second half of the fight: This is the way I see this fight going. I see Conor burning himself out somewhat, Floyd weathering an early storm and coming on stronger and stronger as the fight goes on. By the 8th, 9th, 10th rounds, I think Floyd will have been lighting Conor up like a Christmas tree for a solid few rounds already. The constant punishment will eventually lead to the referee, or maybe even Conor’s corner, pulling the Irishman from the fight.

Hit us up on twitter to let us know how you think it’ll go. Whether you’re going with Floyd, Conor or just here for the spectacle. Just don’t miss it.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER EXCLUSIVE: Full Interview with Snoop Dogg

FLOYD MAYWEATHER EXCLUSIVE Interview with Snoop Dogg

Floyd Mayweather is a champion among champions. The legendary boxer boasts an impeccable 49-0 record. Against greats like Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and Miguel Cotto. But “Money,” as he’s known, is equally revered as a businessman. In a vicious and often cruel sport that has chewed up many fighters and spat them out punch-drunk and penniless. Mayweather, considered by many to be the greatest defensive fighter of all time, has protected himself out of the ring as expertly as he has in it.

Having made a point to learn from the titans of the boxing industry, he’s transformed himself from an employee into a nine-figure boss. Who owns every aspect of his fights as well as those of the boxers he now promotes. Mayweather has a mastery of marketing, wringing the most he possibly can out of a bout, and nobody makes the sport of boxing work for them like he does.

His Next Big Fight vs Conor McGregor

His latest fight is no exception. This Saturday, August 26, Mayweather comes out of retirement at age 40 to fight 29-year-old Irish spark plug Conor McGregor. An MMA star transitioning to boxing so two of the biggest, brashest personalities in the fight game can meet and get crazy paid. The chances Mayweather improves to a perfect 50-0 against the inexperienced pugilist are high. But no matter what happens it promises to be one of the craziest spectacles the sport will ever witness.

In an exclusive GSPN Special interview with Snoop Dogg, Floyd discusses the unique challenges that the younger, versatile McGregor might present. The business of being an athlete and how to make money that lasts for generations. Why strip clubs make great investments, how much he thinks about sex while training for a figh.,And his lifelong abstinence from drugs and alcohol. What he has to say may surprise you, so watch for the hook.

Dan Hardy Breaks Down Mayweather vs McGregor "McGregor has Nothing to Lose"

Dan Hardy Breaks Down Mayweather vs McGregor “Everything to Gain”

Former fighter turned commentator Dan Hardy gives us his breakdown of Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor. Dan will be ringside on Saturday night working with Sky Sports in the UK. And giving the boxing fraternity his insight from an MMA perspective.

Dan says that McGregor is a world class striker in terms of Mixed Martial arts. But when it comes to a refined sport such as boxing. We have not seen him boxing so we really have no idea how he is going to perform. Now he is stepping in against arguably the best in the world. There is everything to gain for McGregor and nothing to lose. Where as for Floyd, there is everything to lose.

Hardy gives Conor a slim chance. But adds that if you asked him if a young kid from Dublin could turn into a 100 million fighter in 4 years. He would give you even slimmer odds. With Conor’s power and athleticism if he lands a punch. Its going to be very hard to tie him up. Like Floyd did with previous fighters rocked him.

He Will Fight Conservatively

Being down to the fact that Mayweather has not video of Conor boxing. Dan feels that Floyd will fight conservatively in the beginning. Once he starts to work out his style, then he will begin to put the pressure on in later rounds. And that is where it gets interesting.

Dan talks about how even though McGregor’s opponents know he’s going to try land the left. He still manages to set it up and switch their lights off.

Hardy feels that Mayweather calling for 8oz gloves is in fact a double bluff. He wants Conor to start fast so that he can work out his movement. So Dan feels that it’s a very smart move by the Mayweather camp.

But there is a reason why people will be tuning in to this fight. There are so many variables and unanswered questions. We find out the answer to those on Saturday night.

Daniel Cormier Predicted Jon Jones Would Be on Steroids

Daniel Cormier Prediction About Jon Jones Using Steroids

Looking up a few body language cues, and the licking of the lips may indicate nervousness from say. Hiding from something especially for a nervous personality type… Maybe that was the case in this instance when Daniel Cormier accused Jon of being on steroids… He also appeared to behave defensively to the accusation… But none the less, the entire fight actually surprised me.

Even from Jon’s first few punches which I highlighted in a previous video. He generated a level of power I’ve never seen from him nor thought he was capable of… And when the kick came… KO’ing Cormier somehow, almost like magic… Anthony “Rumble” Johnson who’s physically built. With a much higher capacity for explosiveness couldn’t even when connecting clean. And no one else has ever been able to vs Daniel… I was truly in shock and didn’t think John would risk his career again, especially with the sentiment he gave on Joe Rogan’s podcast but man…

How Wrong Was I…

I was wrong. He was ripped to shreds yet talked about eating pancakes, and the size difference vs Daniel… He looked like a giant vs him, it was terrifying just watching him stand there at times… If a cerebral fighter like John took steroids for Daniel Cormier, I know he thought it through. And with his self-admitted nervous personality, he thought long and hard about it, coming to the conclusion that he could not beat Daniel without steroids…

He could not beat Daniel without cheating, thus he knew he could not beat Daniel… This is heart breaking… Especially considering how amazing Daniel looked. He looked confident, calm, almost supreme during the staredowns. And during the fight, before Jon set up the head kick, he looked amazing. He was landing big shots, overall he was winning…

This truly is tragic… Daniel Cormier looking the best I’ve ever seen him, all the hatred he’s received throughout his career. Being resilient regardless of it… An entertaining warrior who never ran but fought from beginning till end… Yet moral and straight edge didn’t start talking trash until he realized he might as well roll with all the hate the crowd gave him. Indicating not just his resilience, but adaptiveness… For me, it was weird as to how anyone could ever hate him which I had highlighted many times in previous videos…

Hatin Him Literally Made no Sense…

He was a good human being who competed with every fiber of what he had to represent his daughter who had died… Hating him literally never made any sense to me, and now, knowing this and watching him lose the way he did. Vs a man who’s never shown a capacity to generate that level of power… You won this fight. Maybe Jon could’ve figured out another way. But by taking steroids, he gave up before the fight had even began… Daniel is a thoroughbred warrior and I’m certain we’ll see him again soon.

A post shared by Die With Memories Not Dreams (@thefightgamemma) on

Following the altercations, Malignaggi was very vocal in his reasoning for being at the event. Claiming that he was, in fact, trying to speak with Conor’s manager and not the man himself. Who knows what the real story is. But once again he will be front and centre, during the fight week build up.

Later on, McGregor sat down with the media to answer questions about the upcoming fight. And discuss all things boxing and Floyd “Money” Mayweather.
