Garry Tonon MMA Debut || Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights

Mostly admired throughout the grappling / BJJ community for his prodigious submission grappling, “The Danaher Death Squad” member and pioneer Gaary Tonan recently made his MMA debut. While the grappling of the young 26 year old was “as expected”, his footwork and striking were surprisingly developed.

Tonon has won numerous Submission Only tournaments, namely the Eddie Bravo Invitational or EBI as well as some of the besting many of the best submission grapplers and BJJ practitioners on the planet. His lineage, not so different from my own, is Tom Deblasse to John Danaher to Renzo Gracie.

Without further ado, let’s dig in…Rocafella foreva, Renzo Gracie BJJ 4 life.

GLOVES ARE OFF: Anthony Joshua vs Joseph Parker

Anthony Joshua vs Joseph Parker: GLOVES ARE OFF

One of the most highly anticipated heavyweight boxing matches in recent times takes place March 31st. As the IBO, WBA and IBF world champion Anthony Joshua. Will face off against New Zealand’s own WBO champion Joseph Parker, in a unification of their titles. At the Principality stadium in Cardiff Wales.

Of course the world is now familiar with the superstar that is Anthony Joshua. But, far less familiar with his Kiwi challenger Joseph Parker. Yet Parker brings with him a perfect professional record of 23 wins, with 23 KO’s.

What we do know is that Parker has not faced the same calibre of fighter as Joshua. Who has managed to knock out every one of his 20 opponents on his way to the World title. But Parker is no slouch, with a perfect record of 24 wins and 0 losses. With 18 of those wins coming by way of knockout.

The smaller man inside the ring, Parker is adamant that his speed will be one of the deciding factors. And it’s something the Joshua camp have been looking to counteract. With their man shedding muscle and dropping weight on his way to full fitness.

The Gloves Are Off

In this gloves are off interview setting, both guys face off and give their opinion on the other. And with the psychological games in full effect. It’s fascinating to see the two men who just a few days from now. Will battle it out inside the square circle in Wales. Mentally battling it out on live tv.

And while Joshua will enter the fight as the betting odds favourite. Jospeh Parker is very much a fighter with less to lose and everything to gain. Can he bring it to AJ and do what no one else has been able to do? It’s a huge as, but doable for the confident and younger Parker.

Tune in to find out who emerges the unified champion when the pair face off. Along with two other highly relevant fighters in their divison. Who will themselves no doubt be paying very close attention indeed.

Motivational: Medicine for the Last Man with Coach Zahabi

Motivation: Medicine for the Last Man – Coach Zahabi

A serious dose of motivation from TriStar head coach Firas Zahabi, who discusses the truth about developing a training routine. How to stop lying to yourself and change your life.

He talks about how incredible both the body and the mind are.Yet some people convince themselves everysingle day that they cannot do something. Waking up every day and telling themselves that same story. That they cannot do anything! Absolutely convincing themsleves that it is true!

Even the simplest thing which can be so easy to do. They manage to talk themselves out of doing it. And that this is a crippling way to live. But you can do it, it simply physics and your own beliefs.

If you are overweight, the problem is in your head. Just 2% of the population has a medical condition which stops them from losing weight and getting fit. So they have no excuse, yet they still manage to make one.

One Way or Another I’m Going to find Success

And that solidier within, you have to train him each and everyday and march each and every day. And build up his strength. You have to built is slowly through self talk, self thought.

Teaching yourself how to see things in a different light. Reading biographies of people who have had a hard time and made it.

You have to convince yourself that you are going to find a way tomake it, or die trying. You have to stick to the positive and keep trying.

He gives the example of is own son who he was teaching how to ride a bike. His son said that he couldn’t do it. So Firas told him they would have to sleep in the park until he did. It wasn’t long before his son learned how!

He wanted his son to realise that they were committed to making it work, and they did! He was just trying to teach him a lesson. Some people are locked to their excuse. But when you take that excuse away, they can achieve great things.

Thug Rose and The Lords Prayer

Rose namajunas ufc strawweight queen.

Rose Namajunas: Salvation is Mine

Hands up if you were one of the few who gave Rose Namajunas a chance in her quest for the UFC strawweight title? When Thug Rose faced the ultra-dominant division champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 217. It was obvious that very few were giving the young upstart much of a chance at all!

Transfixed by Joanna’s uber confident, almost to a fault, demeanor. Coupled with her unbeaten record inside the cage. It’s was a brave man or woman who was going to bet against the reigning strawweight queen.

Rarely in the fight game to we see such a contrast in personalities during a pre fight build up. While Joanna attempted to impose her will and mind games throughout. Rose manintained her own typical quiet and calm demeanor. Which only made Joanna’s antics seem all that more outlandish and over the top.

Joanna jedrzejczyk mindgames with rose namajunas. And the harder she tried, the more Rose’s calmness in the face of an all out enslaught. Seemed to get under the champs skin, forcing her to raise the volume yet another notch on the dial. It was almost as though Rose had an invisible cloak with which to deflect JJ’s jibes and physical aggression.

When fight night finally came along. You really were quite unsure of where exactly either fighter was mentally. While Joanna stalked, Rose remained resolute and in her own little bubble. Blocking out all the nastiness and negativity, through what we later found out to be “The Lords Prayer.”

Vengence is Mine Saith The Lord

And now, with all the mind games and expectations aside. How could it be possible for the second fight to live up to their first outing? With Joanna having emptied her entire toolset of mind games, being laid bare for all the world to see. How can she deal with an opponent who from the outside, simply does not fear her?

Would a resurgent Jedrzejczyk with her super aggressive style, have what it takes to overcome the new queen of the division? Can she muster a gameplan outside of the mind games, which will offer her a window to the winners circle?

Just a few short months ago, many including JJ herself! Believed that she would retire from the sport unbeaten. That she would ride the wave of greatness all the way to it’s inevitale conclusion. That she would establish her right to be considered in the Mount Rushmore of MMA greats. And who knows, should she return to the top in decisive fashion and continue her reign unabated. In some years from that could very well be the case.

UFC 223 will decide a great deal and could very well forever change the course for both fgihters lives and careers. As so many championship fights have done before. Will it be a case of Salvation or Vengence? In the end, only one will have their way.

Mike Tyson Meets Frank Bruno Training London 1987

Mike Tyson Meets Frank Bruno Plus Terry Wogan London 1987

Former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Iron Mike Tyson. Meets one time opponent Frank Bruno while he is training in London, back in 1987. The meeting between two of the best of the world is indeed very cordial, you might even say very friendly. As both men were quite happy and quiet menintheir daily lives.

At the time Bruno was preparing to face James Tillis. A fighter Tyson had beaten via unanimous decision a year earlier. Bruno would go on to beat Tillis via TKO, setting him on the road to a fight for the heavyweight championship against Tyson in 1989.

Later on we get to hearfrom Mike as he gives his thoughts to the great Terry Wogan on British TV.  He discusses his thoughts on both Bruno and Tillis, but offered no prediciton on the outcome of the fight. Mike also talks a little about his own life and times and his rise through the ranks.

From his humble beginnings in Brownsville New York. To beginning his boxing training with Cus D’Amato at the age of thirteen. His winning and losing record as an amateur. And how he handles the pressure of being the world’s youngest ever heavyweight champion. Mike also talks about his own experience sparring Bruno, when he was fifteen and Bruno was twenty.

The conversation between the two rounds off with some insight into what we can expect to see from Mike as his career progresses. Some fascinating footage and insight into the pre Robin Givens, pre prison. Pre the death of Cus D’Amato and the departure of Kevin Rooney from Tyson’s camp.

Before his inevitable fall from grace, his incarceration. and losing the mantle of being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

155: The Love Triangle

Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

155: The Love Triangle

I’m not going to lie, I’ve spent far too long trying to come up with a humorous analogy to start this article, but I’m not gonna find anything funnier than Dana White pretending he doesn’t understand Ariel Helwani’s questions at January’s press conference, so I’ll direct your attention to that.

In all seriousness, it’s difficult to really distil the recent history of the lightweight division in a concise manner. Since Conor won his second belt back in November of 2016, the division has been in turmoil. While McGregor was busy having his eight-figure boxing match, the lightweight division spun its wheels until Tony Ferguson was crowned interim champion in October of last year. Since then it’s been an extended episode of a CW show.

UFC lightweight Tony ferguson vs lando vannata.Poor Tony just wants Conor back but Conor’s a free spirit who just can’t be chained down man. Suddenly Khabib’s back on the scene stealing all the attention and Tony finds himself torn. He deserves Conor, but we all kind of want to see him end up with Khabib, because come one they’re made for each other, right? Anyway, Conor will be fine on his own. But wait, what if Khabib ends up with Conor; what a twist.

I think we can all agree this could have been avoided. If anyone else was the champion, they’d have been stripped. Not “the Notorious One” though. It’s a testament to the man’s power that his influence only seems heightened by an extended absence. He hasn’t fought in a year and a half and he still has more of an impact on the rankings than most active fighters.

Recent developments have served to clarify the situation somewhat, as Dana White stated Conor will be stripped the second first punch is thrown at UFC 223. It’s difficult to look at that as anything other than a slight to Interim champ Tony Ferguson though.

“El Cucuy” sits on a ten-fight win streak in what many people consider to the toughest division in the world’s leading MMA promotion. He won the interim strap back in October and has been Schrodinger’s champ ever since. First Conor wanted to fight in December, then he crashed a Bellator event and was suspended – and I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that neither of those sentences were ever actually true. So, Ferguson had to sit around and wait, despite the fact he probably deserved to be promoted.

Dana white and UFC lightweight champion conor mcgregor.Reports surfaced that McGregor didn’t want to fight again until the summer, so the company had no choice but to book Ferguson against the white hot Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian grappler made an absolute mess of Edson Barboza at UFC 219 and the world was reminded of the force lurking at lightweight that is a healthy Khabib. The UFC couldn’t leave Tony and Khabib on the bench until the summer, so the answer was simple. Well, to most people at least.

Unfortunately, the UFC went about the booking with absolute bluster. All they had to do was strip Conor and make Ferguson the undisputed champ. They didn’t do that, and it became painfully clear that the even the bookers of the 223 main event weren’t quite sure what the fight represented. It’s difficult to call the situation anything other than a complete screw up on the part of the UFC.

And that’s a damn shame, because Ferguson vs Khabib is as exciting a fight as could be put on in MMA. Ferguson is 23-3 and hasn’t lost since 2012, and Khabib has never lost, sitting on 25-0 record. The Russian is ostensibly unstoppable, and “El Cucuy” is totally unpredictable. Khabib will almost definitely take Ferguson down, but Ferguson is lethal off his back. It’s a perfect fight. Luckily the political disarray doesn’t seem to have cooled fans excitement for the clash, but that hasn’t been for lack of trying.

khabib Nurmagomedov ufc lightweight. What’s more, this is only step one. The winner of Khabib vs Ferguson will surely face McGregor upon his eventual return later in the year. What a storyline; the two most feared men in the division duke it out, then the biggest star in the sport makes his triumphant return to take back the title he never lost. It’s a dream scenario, so why did it have to be muddied?

“The Money Era” has become somewhat of a platitude in MMA circles, but it’s difficult to pick apart any major story in the sport without finding evidence of it’s involvement. The simple fact is that if Conor didn’t make as much money as he did, he would have been stripped, and everything would have been simple. No one would have cared that McGregor was off riding platinum jet skis and literally fighting the mafia, because he wouldn’t have been perceived to have been ruining anyone else’s fun. But the belt was off with him, and both fighters and pundits spend far too long talking about someone who wasn’t even returning their phone calls.

Money though; you can’t hope for a sport to grow and then complain when it encounters the exact same growing pains that all other growing sports have encountered, as difficult as that may be to admit. Look at it like this: in ten, maybe twenty years from now, will we be talking about the PR mess the UFC had on it’s hands during this period? I’ll wager we’ll be talking about the pair of monumental title fights we got to sort that very mess out. As fans, we sort of have to put up with the business side, but I think on April 7, we’ll got a nice apology.

MMA MATCHMAKER: FIGHTS THAT NEED TO HAPPEN IN 2018!!!

mma matchmaking to be done.

Matchmaking in MMA seems to be on the rise again, here is my must see fights in MMA this year…

After a rough 12 months the rest of 2018 looks as though it could be a real treat for fans. The emergence of a batch of upcoming fighters such as newly crowned champion, Rose Namajunas, the new featherweight contender Brian Ortega as well as the announcement of UFC Liverpool, spearheaded by local boy Darren Till, dare I say it, MMA has a lot to look forward to?!

Here are my top fights that should happen in the rest of 2018

BELLATOR’S YOUNG GUNS EMBROILED IN A LONG STANDING FEUD

A.J. McKee versus James Gallagher

Two fighters that are part of Bellator’s new breed, this has been a feud that has slowing been building over the past 12-18 months.

This has all the makings of a great rivalry and one Bellator can continue to promote for years to come.

Both fighter’s have unique fighting styles, personalities and given their infancy in the sport this has the makings of a classic trilogy that could comntinue to build Bellator’s brand.

THE GORILLA PUTS THE WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION ON NOTICE

Darren Till versus The top 10 welterweight division

Darren till top ufc welterweight.Following on from the Scouser’s promo at UFC London, it is safe to say the promotion may have found their next big European MMA superstar.

Despite last year’s demolition on ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, Till seems to have struggled to make traction with facing off against another one of the division’s top ranked contenders.

This all looks set to change in May, as he will headline the first ever event at Liverpool’s Echo arena.

The thought of Till going toe to toe with the likes of Rafael Dos Anjos, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman would be entertaining from the first patch of promotion through to eventual face-off in the Octagon.

Till is definitely the man to watch in 2018.

A TRUE P4P SUPER FIGHT

T.J. Dillashaw versus Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson

A true super fight in every sense of the word. Champion versus Champion, with two of the most dynamic and entertaining fighters in the UFC.

Whilst recent reports indicate the negotiations may be going stagnant, this remains a wish-list fight for the fans.

There is no question of both men’s credentials and this fight could go on to further cement DJ’s claim as the premier pound for pound fighter.

Cyborg’s 145lb test

Cris Cyborg versus Megan Anderson

Meghan anderson featherweight invicta.Rumblings continue that Amanda Nunes v Cris Cyborg is the fight the UFC brass wish to make, however, the real test Cyborg so badly craves is with Megan Anderson, the current Invicta featherweight Champion.

What makes the fight so interesting is how they would match up.

Megan would have 3 inches over her opponent and crucially, is a natural 145lb’er, couple this with her Muay Thai style and this could finally be a fight which gives Cyborg an intriguing set of challenges to deal with.

THE MOST HIGHLY SKILLED FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE FIGHTER EVER

Max Holloway versus Brian Ortega

This one looks set to co-headline UFC’s international fight week at 226. Being touted as the ‘biggest fight at featherweight since Aldo v McGregor’, this one arguably offers up an even more intriguing bout.

Brian Ortega’s ko of Frankie Edgar has made people sit up and take notice. Already a high level BJJ specialist, the diverse striking he used to KO Edgar has shown he has more than one way to finish a bout.

In the other corner, Max Holloway has really come into his own as champion.

His dismantling of Aldo has proved he is the king of the 145lb division and his hunger to be the best will ensure this is a close to a 50/50 fight as it gets.

This fight is too good to happen just once and I can see them fighting 2 or 3 times more…sign me up!

THE MONEY FIGHT

The winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov/Tony Ferguson versus Conor McGregor

Similar to the fight mentioned above, UFC 223’s main event is truly a pick ’em! A unique clash of styles, coupled with the storyline that comes with the fact this fight has been almost 3 years in the making, the winner will not greater strengthen their resume, but they will hopefully be giving the money fight…Conor McGregor.

Make no mistake, Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon is up there with Mike Tyson’s return bout with Peter McNeely in terms of the attention it is set to draw.

It will be nothing short of epic tv.

The UFC need to go all guns blazing on this one, a multi-date promotional world tour, a countdown show, everything including the kitchen sink needs thrown at this .

This would be nothing short than spectacular from start to finish.

All 3 competitors have the ability to utilise their skillsets to pose problems from one another.

This one just prints money, whoever the winner.

THE GOAT AT 170lbs

Ben Askren versus GSP

Ben Askren vs. GSP in the UFC.Another fight which has been spoken about for years.

This would pair the best welterweight outside the UFC, versus the Welterweight GOAT.

How this fight can come to fruition given the feud between Askren and Dana White is anyone’s guess.

Whilst this fight certainly wouldn’t be the most entertaining in terms of spectacle, this would be offer a true test of each other’s men’s skillsets.

The winner of this bout would finally confirm the world’s best at 170lbs

209 VERUS THE WORLD

A Diaz Brother versus literally anyone

CM Punk, Floyd Mayweather, Brock Lesnar, Conor McGregor or the Incredible Hulk…I don’t care…let’s just get both Diaz brothers back in the Octagon in 2018…

PLEASE?!

PREMIER BELLATOR TALENTS WITH ADDED BITE

Rory MacDonald versus Gegard Mousasi

Gegard has a difficult bout set for Bellator 200, but should he successfully defeat Rafael Carvalho, the hype built around a super fight with Rory MacDonald well begin.

This fight would pitch two top tier talents that were a massive coup for the promotion and could be one of the biggest fights in Bellator’s history.

WHO IS THE BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET?

Cain Velasquez versus Stipe Miocic

Cain velasquez versus Stipe Miocic.Ever since Stipe won the belt in 2016, the shadow of Cain Velasquez has loomed large.

Stipe has become a history maker, and is finally getting the respect he deserves as ‘the baddest man on the planet’.

Meanwhile, the former champion (Velasquez) has faced numerous injuries and surgeries over the past 2 years, the AKA standout looks set to return to the Octagon in mid-2018.

Whilst Cain may very well be on the slide, and not at the optimal health as he once was when he dethroned Brock Lesnar, he still offers up a mirror image of Stipe’s fighting style.

Relentless pace, cardio for days, strong wrestling background, not to mention they both men hit hard.

The winner of this heavyweight bout would have no doubts as UFC’s heavyweight GOAT.

AND FINALLY…

 CM Punk versus Floyd Mayweather

Just joking.

Giorgio The Doctor Petrosyan || Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights

Giorgio The Doctor Petrosyan || Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights

Giorgio Petrosyan, a technical wizard, and someone who I recently realized has been requested for years that I didn’t cover is Giorgio Petrosyan. The Armenian Born-Italian raised kickboxer, many would cite as one of the most talented strikers to ever grace the ring. A Southpaw, nicknamed “The Doctor” for his surgical precision, and notable technical skills, ring generalship and defensive prowess. He has defeated some of the best strikers in the world while taking little-to-no damage.

The Doctor is to Kickboxing (mostly K1 / Glory rules, i.e. no extended clinching nor elbows). What someone like Willie Pep, a young James Toney, or veteran Floyd Mayweather is to (Western) Boxing. With an 85-2-2 record, yet only 38 knockouts, Giorgio is a defensive wizard and brilliant counter striker. Displaying some of the best southpaw footwork and savvy ever seen in combat sports. This is a good study in southpaw striking tactics.

Inspired by Bruce Lee and Jean-Claude Van Damme martial arts films, Giorgio started training in Muay Thai at 14. But was initially turned away from the gym for being too small. After some persistence, he eventually started his training under Alfio Romanut (Satori Gladiatorium Nemesis) gym and had his first fight at the age of 16. Though some may argue the now 32 year old Petrosyan is post-prime. He only has two one loss in the last 11 years to an awkwardly aggressive Andy Ristie.

The Genius Of Holloway's "You know... It is what it is." ● Soothing The Mind Method

The Genius Of Max Holloway’s “You know… It is what it is.” ● Soothing The Mind Method

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway’s “It is what it is”… It’s such a simple philosophy, but maybe there’s more to it than we understand. Mindsmash looks to analyse and breakdown the simple yet effective method Max uses to calm his mind.

Not allowing his mind to carry him away on a journey he does not want to take. But simply allowing the negative self talk to pass through like water in a stream. And the positive benefits and results can be seen both in his demeanour and results inside the octagon.

Thank you for joining me as I share a technique to help soothe your mind.

Jimi Manuwa: Fighting For His Legacy at UFC 223

Jimi Manuwa vs Jan Blachowicz ufc fight night.

Jimi Manuwa: Fighting Pride of London Fighting for His Legacy

When British fighter Jimi Manuwa joined the elite ranks of the UFC, it was with much fanfare amongst his UK fanbase. A fighter who had delayed his signing with the promotion. Until he believed that he had enough quality fights under his belt, and the time was right. And by all accounts, after his first number of outings, this approach appeared to have paid off.

Cutting through all of his first three opponents inside two rounds. To those not in the know, Manuwa looked like a force to be reckoned with inside the octagon. And a fighter with all the potential to be the first ever UFC light heavyweight champion to come from the UK.

So when the Brit came up against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC Fight Night 37. Many saw the fight as his seminal breakthrough moment! And an undenialble sign from the MMA Gods that Jimi Manuwa was a man on his way to the very top. But, as history now reminds us, he came up short, suffering a decisive knockout loss for the very first time in his professional career. And, as it happens, to the former number one challenger in the division.

Jimi Manuwa defeats Jan Blachowicz. It’s a loss which from the outside looking in seemed to shake Manuwa’s momentum to it’s very core. The fighter who looked destined for greatness, being stopped by the only guy to push the champion Jon Jones to the wire.

And like at least some fighters before him, Manuwa didn’t look to shy away from his loss. Deciding to face it head on and go train alongside Gustafsson at his base in Sweden. As he searched for the remedy to what and why things had gone wrong.

Jump forward two years and he has now seen a mixed bag of results inside the cage. With a win over Jan Blachowicz, the guy he faces yet again in a rematch at UFC 223, Ovince St Preux and Corey Anderson. As well as losses to former top contenders Anthony Johnson and Volkan Oezdemir.

What Does the Future Hold?

There appears to be a pattern, where when Jimi comes up against the very top tier of the division he falls short. And now at 38 years young, which I did not fully realise this myself until now. How much time has he got to prove he has what it takes to go all the way to the top? Sure he’s a light heavyweight and we know the heavier divisions fighters often mature at a later stage… Sometimes.

But with opponents like Anderson 28, Oezdemir 28, Gustafsson 31, all guys who are in or coming into their prime years. And even Ilir Latifi waiting in the wings. That window of opportunity is getting smaller and smaller by the day.

Now, providing Daniel Cormier is still in fact the champion, when he finally hangs up those gloves in 2019. It will not doubt open up the division like a drowning managing to fill his lungs with air. With Jones and DC having controlled of the division like a lifelong dictator. His departure will free up those assets who have been unable till this point to break the grip.

But that is yet another year and several fights away. With the resulting jostling at the top to follow. Where will Manuwa find himself in the mix? Without a win over Blachowicz this weekend, the answer could very well be, nowhere. And with an ever evolving 205lb pecking order to consider. Will he be able to find that illusive route all the way to the summit and stake his claim to a future title shot.

Lions eat first. But in this unforgiving world, Lions are almost always usurped by the younger, hungrier challengers.

ROSE NAMAJUNAS VS. JOANNA JEDRZECZYK 2 (HD) UFC223 PROMO

ROSE NAMAJUNAS VS. JOANNA JEDRZECZYK II UFC 223 PROMO

For a second time Rose Namajunas willface the former champion, defending her strawweight title against Joanna Jedrzeczyk. This coming April 7 in New York at UFC 223. In a fight Namajunas the challenger was supposed to lose. She “rose” to the occasion and knocked out the seemingly invincible Jedrzeczyk in the very first round.

UFC 223 offers the former champion the opportunity to regain the title. And silence the naysayers and doubters who said she was simply outclassed. The pair face off in the co-main event card which will see Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov finally settle the score in their long running verbal battle.

Chuck Liddell - Untold Stories About His Career & UFC

Chuck Liddell – Untold Stories About His Career & UFC

If you are a true fan of mixed martial arts, then you are a Chuck Liddell fan. Chuck along with other fighters like Tito Ortiz, Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Kevin Randleman, Randy Couture etc. Laid the blueprint and foundation for other fighters to follow.

Today Chuck may be in his late forties, but he still has plenty of fight in his head and heart. And in this interview it’s evident that he is still very much game in making a return to the cage. And especailly if it were against his old foe, Tito Ortiz.

The former UFC lightheavyweight talks about his life and career. From where it all began, with him actually being told he was wrestling in college. Offering to take a fight against a 15 – 0 fighter, without any training, on a days notice.

To him being a professioanl MMA fighter. Chuck talks about his iconic fights and opponents from Tito, Randy Couture and Vitor Belfort. He has fough and beat them all, sometimes after first losing of course.

He talks about his relationship with longtime coach John Hackleman. The only guy who before or after has ever given him such a beating.

Chuck also talks about the differences between being a fighter and a coach. And how some of the things he likes to see in actual fights, and fighting styles. He would not advise his own students to do inside the cage.

A Return to Action

He also talks at length about his potential return to the cage. Whether it be against his old foe Tito Ortiz, who has been making some things be known. Or perhaps against someone like Chael Sonnen, who he again of course believes he can easily beat.

A fascinating insight into the life and times of one of the sports greats. And trip down memory lane for many long term fans.

Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov - Extended Promo | Unfinished Business

Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov UFC 223 Unfinished Business

Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov |April 7, 2018 Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, United States. Хабиб Нурмагомедов против Тони Фергюсона| 7 Апреля, 2018, ПРОМО+русские субтитры.

UFC 223 finally has it’s main event set in stone after much speculation.

The merry-go-round of the UFC lightweight division featuring lineal champion Conor McGregor, interim champion Tony Ferguson, and perennial contender Khabib Nurmagomedov has threatened to make a mockery of the weight class, with the latter duo having to respectively pull out of multiple scheduled bouts against each other, and a healthy McGregor not defending his belt 14 months after winning it.

The UFC’s refusal to strip the Irishman of the 155lb. belt saw the saga drag on. With Khabib, following his UFC 219 win over Edson Barboza last month, heavily linked with a McGregor fight despite Ferguson’s status as the genuine number one contender. Now UFC president Dana White has gone a long way towards clearing up the situation.

The promotion’s boss has announced that following reports in recent days. Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will indeed face each other at UFC 223 on April 7 in Brooklyn, New York. Speaking on the Toucher and Rich show. White told host Nick Cattles that ‘El Cucuy’ and ‘The Eagle’ will finally fight.

Sean O’Malley || Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights (feat. Tommy Hearns)

Sean OMalley Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights (feat. Tommy Hearns) by Brendan Dorman

Sugar Sean O’Malley, who has a nickname that stems back to some of the flashiest (and best p4p) pugilists of the last century, from arguably the greatest in Sugar Ray Robinson, to Sugar Ray Leonard and Sugar Shane Mosley. He is incredibly creative, and wise (ring IQ etc) beyond his 23 years. My issue isn’t with the oft-overused nickname, it’s that one Thomas THE HITMAN Hearns is far closer in physical attributes, as I intend to demonstrate here.

Though they aren’t exact matches in build, and probably more importantly sport, the tall and slender explosive finishers have similarly incognito ways to put their opponents lights out with single strikes, using their incredible height and reach advantages. Most tall, long-limbed, and thin-framed fighters do not fit into the category of explosive, which is the crux of the comparison.

Hearns = 6’1″, 147-160 lbs.(career), 78″ Reach

O’Malley = 5’11”, 135 lb, 72″ Reach

FIRAS ZAHABI ON GSP VS MCGREGOR "IT'S BIGGEST FIGHT OF ALL TIME"

MCGREGOR VS GSP “GEORGES TOO SMART TO GET HIT W/HIS LEFT! BIGGEST FIGHT OF ALL TIME”

Head coach at the Tristar gym Firas Zahabi, trainer to former middleweight and welterweight champion georges st-pierre. Talking very candidly about the potential GSP vs Conor McGregor Superfight. Saying he feels that A, it would be the biggest fight of all time. And that St Pierre his student, is too smart to get hit by mcgregor’s left straight.

Firas breaks down what both GSP and Conor bring to the fight. Saying that Georges grew up in the karate Taekwando world. and that Conor using his range would not be a problem. Te obvious size difference between the two is also something which would have to be overcome. As GSP is now a much bigger man after his move up to middleweight.

Zahabi is ve open and honestinhis assessment and doesn’t pull any punches (pun intended). How any fight between the twomight play out is sheer guess work. So for now at least, all we can do is dream big.

Return of the Karateka – Wonderboy Thompson

DISCLAIMER: While many will argue that Lyoto Machida was the one to bring Karate back. I don’t disagree, I am merely more impressed by Wonderboy’s striking sensibilities, clean USADA bill of health, and relevance in a fierce climate.

While I have certainly covered Wonderboy in the past, and he needs no introduction….I will try to give some new takes on his technique / skill. Whether southpaw or orthodox, punching, kicking or a bit of both, the idea as always is to celebrate the fighters skill. Without further ado…..

Inside Look: UFC 222 – EP.11 – The Moment Before & After The Madness

No matter who you are a fan of, these fighters deserve respect. The pure determination to go out there in front of the world and compete against another man or woman, in order to feed your family is humbling to watch. The sacrifice is only appreciated for the most part, when a fighter wins. People tend to vanish when the results don’t go a certain way and I feel for these fighters. Although I am neutral in this game, because I am here to tell a story, I feel every amount of emotion being a former athlete. I hope you appreciate these fighters the way I do.

Does Dana White Still Care?

UFC president Dana white.

Does Dana White Still Care?

Another PPV in the history books, another event where Dana White looks as though he is going through the motions…

It is ironic Dana talks about a certain Conor McGregor having life changing money and doubting whether he ever comes back – Dana’s reported net worth is now 4 times that of McGregor’s millions.

Long gone is the greenfield promoter, who had intensity, snarl and played the role like a regular blue-collar worker who had just scored a big-ticket corporate gig.

Dana white and conor mcgregor. Those days are long gone. When was the last time Dana actually looked fully engaged? To a certain extent we saw that Dana White during the build-up of the Mayweather vs McGregor promotion. Dana looked in his element. This was something new, promoting a once in a lifetime event with his jewel in the crown and franchise MVP, Conor McGregor. It looked as though Dana had hit his promotional peak.

Fast forward to 6 months later and we see everything finally go back to normal in MMA and boxing (well, almost) – The face of the UFC has boldly claimed “2017 was the promotion’s biggest ever year.” Along with the lack of direct insider knowledge of what is actually going on with his two biggest star’s returns to the Octagon (Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor). Not forgetting his public spats with Tyron Woodley and Tony Ferguson.

We are in new territory in the UFC these days, WME/IMG seem to be a faceless corporate juggernaut who don’t really know what they have let themselves in for and their insistence on creating fights which make the most ‘bang for buck’ regardless of rankings or sense is very much the norm these days.

Dana White’s orginal old school persona doesn’t fit in with this model and it shows more and more every time.

What does the future hold? Time will only tell, but it is looking increasing likely that Dana’s next passion project, disrupting the boxing world means his days as public figure in the UFC look almost numbered.

Would we see the old traits that made him undoubtedly the centre of the promotion? Perhaps. Dana’s ability to change the image of MMA and bringing into the mainstream consciousness was a joy to behold and giving him a similar mandate would likely be the challenge he needs and probably craves.

Where would this leave the UFC? Would they go down the route of Bellator, and find a Scott Coker like figure…a more of reserved figure but who gets the fight business inside and out. With a commercial acumen to truly understand his audience? Or do they go down the path of a Chael Sonnen type promoter – animated, quick-witted and confident. With a little bit throwback to Pro-Wrestling thrown into the mix? The latter would certainly fit within the structure of WME/IMG. But who fits that mould currently, a there seems to be a drought of these personalities in MMA for 2018?

The person who does eventually succeed Dana will have some mighty large shoes to fill. And they will need to stamp their own brand/personality into the role from day one. But one thing is for certain, those days could soon be upon us as with each event that goes by. We see an even more disinterested President of the promotion every time.

Who would you like to see eventually replace Dana White?

Thanks for reading!
