Video: Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Boxing Compared

McGregor vs Mayweather Boxing Side By Side Comparison

We recently had the video footage released from both the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather camps. Showing both athletes doing their thing, as they prepare to face off on August 26th. We first got a look at “Money” Mayweather who was working the double end bag. And in all honesty, he looks fantastic. Now, this is coming purely from a fans perspective. Now I’m sure you will find someone who is far better learned in the art of pugilism. Who may have a differing opinion. But in terms of just pure speed and movement. Well, the years sure have been kind to the 49 – 0 boxing great.

Next up we see McGregor working out in his custom-built gym. As he prepares to jump from the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, into the world of boxing. While both full contact combat sports, but with a very different set of rules. Conor is seen throwing combinations on a heavy bag or what is often referred to as a body snatcher. Working those uppercuts and body shots.

Some unsavoury comments have already been made in relation to McGregor’s boxing ability. With some interesting conspiracy theories floating around. That the footage we have seen may well have been staged to give Floyd a sense of overconfidence or cockiness as some might say. Does Floyd Mayweather need that? Just look up cocky in Merriam-Webster! And after that, let’s take a closer look and work it out for ourselves.

Dana White "I Don't think Nick Diaz Will Ever Fight Again"

Dana White Says he Doesn’t Believe Nick Diaz Will Ever Fight Again

The UFC President Dana White being interviewed was asked when he thinks UFC welterweight Nick Diaz would fight again. White replied that in his honest opinion, he’s not sure if we will ever see Nick Diaz inside the UFC octagon again. While his younger brother Nate is still in the mix and waiting on the sidelines for something to pop up!

In White’s mind. His older brother Nick simply may not have the will to compete in MMA. Citing it as being a young man’s sport. With its athletes having to love the daily grind, just to get into the UFC. But to maintain their position in te sport or even break the top 10 or 5. To become a World champion! White believes Diaz may not longer have the fire in him to continue. For now, the ball is in Nick’s court. But there’s no doubting it would take a pretty big fight and even bigger payday to coax him out of his extended hibernation. What or who can do it, is for Nick himself to decide.

Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2 – ‘A Chance At Redemption’ Trailer

The UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will face his nemesis. The former Division Champion Jon Jones on July 29th at UFC 214. We talk all the time about rivalries in the sport. But few come close to the disdain these two hold for each other. Going far beyond playing up for the camera’s. The Cormier, Jones rivalry, has seeped into every aspect of their lives, with personal jibes and their own family members being drawn into the fray.

Cormier vs Jones II is DC’s opportunity to show that he is, in fact, the very best light heavyweight on the planet. With a returning Jones not being given an opportunity to go against a lower ranked opponent. It’s straight into the lion’s den against a hungry and always determined, King of the Grind, DC. Almost 4 weeks to the day we get to see who is the top dog. Or in this case, the leader of the pride…

FREDDIE ROACH - CONOR McGREGOR WOULD KILL HIM IF IT WAS UFC

Freddie Roach Talks About Conor McGregor Facing Floyd in the Cage

World renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach was interviewed by IFL TV. And being asked yet again to comment on the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight. Roach firstly said that he hopes the fight goes well. He doesn’t believe that the two sports mix very well. Because whoever’s rules you go by is going to dictate the winner of the match. At least 99% of the time unless someone gets lucky or something like that. So Roach doesn’t think he has much chance in a boxing match.

“But if he’s fighting in the UFC he would kill him, the other way around.”

Freddie goes on to say that he wishes McGregor the best of luck. He seems like a nice guy, pretty funny guy on TV. Then when asked if the crazy thing happened and McGregor stopped Floyd. Would Manny Pacquiao be interested in that fight? If McGregor was to come through the fight with some credibility, would it be a fight that Manny would like? He said “I’ll ask him and find out for you” with a rye smile.

Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley StrikeForce Classic

Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley StrikeForce Barnburner

April 9th, 2011 and two of the very best welterweights in the World. Stockton Califonia’s Nick Diaz taking on the hard hitting UK’s Paul Daley at StrikeForce. This was to be the first bout held after Zuffa had purchased the company one month earlier. In one of the sports classic bouts, both men went back and forth in a rock em sock em barnburner. Which at one time or another had both fighters reeling. Daley managed to drop Diaz with a looping shot and almost finished the fight with some vicious ground and pound.

But Diaz being the crafty veteran and able to work off his back repelled the onslaught. Managing to climb to his feet and hit back at a now fading Daley. It wasn’t much longer before the constant barrage of blows took its toll on the Brit. And with one final combination on the feet, Daley dropped to the canvas before eating several more shots. With referee John Mccarthy stepping in to ensure he didn’t take any more damage. A classic that years later Daley would go on to say, was a fight for which he never trained correctly. Spending many of his weekends out partying, before being back in the gym come Monday morning!

As always EGO gives invaluable insight into the backstory of the fight that most boxing purists really want to see. But it’s a matchup that can only happen if both fighters agree to leave their regular weight divisions and meet somewhere in the middle. For Rigondeaux it could mean much as two weight classes, a big ask for any fighter. But especially for one that is in the latter part of his career. Will it happen? What if it happens, why should it happen? EGO is your guy, so you know why!

Floyd Mayweather Showing MAD RESPECT For Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather Shows Huge Respect For Conor McGregor

Here is a well put together a compilation of all of the times Floyd Mayweather has shown respect for Conor McGregor’s own unique set of skills which he brings to the fight game. Money talks about how he feels McGregor has great striking, power and is a great champion. How much of what Mayweather says he actually truly believes in his heart of hearts, we will leave up to you to decide. But one thing that you do get a sense of is the change in tone. From when the potential fight was first announced to it becoming a real tangible fight! Mayweather will no doubt be the bookies favourite come fight night.

But you can be sure there’s a whole army of MMA fans hoping their guy will do the business. And prove that standup is not worlds apart between the two sports. There’s a lot riding on this fight for all concerned. But for ono one more so than Mayweather himself. A win gets him what? A big payday, nothing more. It’s a fight that for many should never have happened in the first place. But a loss, Holy Moly! If Conor McGregor could pull off the unthinkable, stop the Money Train and shock the World in the process! There is no other way to put it. He will be a God.

Vasyl Lomachenko Is A Glitch In The Matrix vs Rigondeaux?

Vasyl Lomachenko vs Romulo Koasicha, Rigondeaux Up Next?

Outside the upcoming Canelo Alvarez vs GGG Gennady Golovkin super fight scheduled to take place September 16th. There are very few other huge matchups for boxing purists currently on the horizon. Sure we have the rumoured Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko rematch. Or Joshua against the returning heavyweight champion of the World, recovering fat lad Tyson Fury. But super fight wise, the immediate future looks somewhat Spartan. Step in Vasyl Lomachenko who currently holds both the featherweight and lightweight titles for the WBO.

Having become the fastest boxer to win titles in two weight divisions. “Hi-Tech” is an anomaly in the sport, having a style and work rate that has won him an army of fans across the world. Only 9 fights to date in his professional career to date. With one of those being a loss against Orlando Salido in his second outing. Since that, Lomachecko has looked like an unstoppable force. With seasoned fighters falling like domino’s as Lomachecko makes them look in many cases, average at best. Who or what next for the Ukranian phenom?

Well, one fighter who seems to think he has what it takes is Guillermo Rigondeaux. The Cuban is looking to solidify his own standing as many pundits number one p4p boxer. At 36 The Jackal may not have many more years at the very top. And already having espoused his personal belief that he doesn’t get the respect he deserves. In his eyes, it seems as though the Lomachecko fight is the fight that will earn him the very respect his seeks.

With Rigondeaux’s own coach Pedro Diaz hinting that a fight against the Ukrainian makes the most sense!

Now all that has to happen is for Rigondeaux to jump up two weight classes. While Lomachecko drops a few pounds, for the two dazzling pugilists to meet somewhere in the middle. So pretty straight forward then? Will it happen, we sure do hope so! But for now, we may just have to be content with some footage of Hi-Tech vs Romulo Koasicha to wet our appetite.

GGG Says Age Is Big Problem In Canelo Fight + Talks Mayweather Vs. McGregor

GGG Says Age Is Big Problem In Canelo Fight + Talks Mayweather Vs. McGregor

Hard hitting Boxer GGG Gennady Golovkin, speaks about his upcoming fight against Canelo Alvarez. The fan favourite joined Power 106 Los Angeles to discuss his upcoming super fight against the recently moved up Canelo.

“Everybody knows who is Canelo, everybody knows my style… So everybody is excited. I believe this date September 16th is the biggest day, not only for Mexican people, Independence Day. It is biggest day, biggest gift to boxing people, I feel. We are bringing the position of boxing back, like old-school.”

Canelo is the Mexican fighter in this bout. But GGG is also a loved by the Mexican fan base. It’s something Golovkin prides himself in giving back. His trainer is Mexican, he loves the food, the tradition of the country. Perhaps there’s a little big of Tijuana in GGG?

With Golovkin holding both the height and reach advantage. Gennady believes that the biggest in the fight for Canelo will be the age difference. So for him this balance out the overall advantages making it a 50/50 fight.

When asked about why Mayweather won’t fight him but will fight McGregor. He says that it’s simply business and an easy money fight. If you want a true boxing fight you watch September 16th. You want a show, then August 26th is for you. When asked about who his money would be on? It’s really not a serious fight for him and his focus is on his own fight.

He also talks a little bit about the rumour which has been floating around. That he may retire ater this fight! Not a question any boxer wants to answer as they approach any fight, but especially such a historic massive boxing match on the calendar. So what did GGG have to say…

Tyson Fury - "McGregor Will KO Mayweather Inside 35 Seconds"

Tyson Fury Reckons McGregor Will KO Mayweather Inside One Round

The former World Heavyweight boxing Champion Tyson Fury is a McGregor fan. Speaking with IFL TV “The Gypsy King” reckons he can see Conor knocking Floyd out “in the first 35 seconds” of the fight, “Like he done to Jose Aldo.”

“I think McGregor will do him inside one round… Be good for boxing if McGregor chinned him… It would be great for boxing… Great for the real people of the world!”

Tyson obviously has high hopes for the Irishman. As he steps in to face one of the best p4p boxers who has ever stepped into the ring. High praise from another man who shocked the world by defeating the former undisputed Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko. Will things pan out as Fury sees it? We shall just have to wait and see.

Can McGregor Beat Mayweather?

Can Conor McGregor Really Beat Mayweather?

That is the question on almost everyone’s lips. And to answer it in his own unique and distinctive way is Mixed Molly Whoppery. Who as always delivers with comedic brilliance, mixed with some great insight. For one, seeing many similarities between this and Rocky I. Yes we said Rocky I! Think about it! A guy who is given no chance whatsoever steps in against one of the most dominant champions of the time. Almost no one gives him a snowball’s chance in hell of exiting the fight victorious. But he still goes in there and puts everything on the line.. and well you know the rest of the story.

Between now and August 26th, we are going to be awash with montages and breakdowns. Before the actual fight itself comes to fruition. Every detail of the verbal and mental battle will be played out across social media. And that includes the man bag wars. So long as we keep getting quality content like this! We will keep feeding you via slingshot until you are sick to the back teeth. See you soon for more!

Olympic Boxer Makes Cris Cyborg Look Slow. Lesson?

Cris Cyborg Sparring Claressa Shields, 2x Olympic Gold Medalist WBC Champion‬

So footage has emerged of Cris Cyborg sparring the two-time Olympian and World WBS Champion Claressa Shields. Nothing new to see UFC fighters facing off against boxers in their never ending search to improve their all round game. But right now, in the current atmosphere, we thought this particular session had some particular relevancy. As Shields, an Olympian and World Champion boxer, one of the very best women’s boxers in the world right now. Faced off against Cyborg, who is currently deemed the best women’s fighter in all mixed martial arts.

Marry that with Conor McGregor, one of the best p4p fighters and the biggest star in all MMA. Who is set to face Floyd Mayweather, many people’s top p4p boxer! Can we look at the example of Cyborg exchanging with Shields and try to imagine Conor in there against Floyd? Notice Shields footwork and work rate. Her placing of shots, accuracy and combinations. We all know what Cris would do if they both threw down in MMA. But in terms of pure boxing. Is there a lesson to be learned?

Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson Go at it Post UFC Oklahoma

Kevin Lee Jousts with Tony Ferguson after Disputed Win over Michael Chiesa

Lightweight Kevin Lee who submitted Michael Chiesa at UFC Oklahoma. Goes at it live on ai with “El Cucuy” Tony Ferguson. Who is set to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov when he returns to action later this year. Lee however feels that he has done enoguh in the same amount of time as Tony to face the returning Russian. Not so says Ferguson, who thinks Lee needs to get in line, work on building his own brand more. As well work on his overall game! No love lost between these two, but Lee is not someone Ferguson would likely have on his radar. Right now el cucuy’s main focus is the top tier, where Nurmagomedov and McGregor rule the roost. Still, who knows, somewhere down the line perhaps? Anything can happen in this sport, so all of these exchanges have their place in the bigger picture.

Michael Chandler is One Tough Cookie

Michael Chandler Looked to Continue on Broken Ankle

Hats off to the now former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler. Who looked to continu his fight against Brent Primus, after he suffered a gruesome disfigurement to his ankle. Which ended up sitting at a very odd angle indeed. Regardless, Chandler still fought on until the referee himself called a stop. With the onsite doctor agreeing that he was unable to continue. To add insult to injury, a commission employee decided to pull the stool away. Resulting in Chandler once again ending up on the canvas when he went to sit down. Bellator NYC really was a night filled with some odd goings on!

Team Alpha Male - Worst Trash Talk in UFC - MMA

Team Alpha Male with the Worst Trash Talk in MMA

The question we want to ask is, are Team Alpha Male the worst “Team” for trash talkers in the UFC? With their trusty captain Urijah Faber sitting on top of the pile. Coming up the rear, his proteges Chad “Money” Mendes, who lost in more ways than one to Conor McGregor. The current bantamweight champion Cody “No Love” Garbrandt, who looked like he had been roasted in the pre-fight trash talk. Facing off against one of the best in the game in Dominick Cruz. The former bantamweight king TJ Dillashaw. Yet another fighter who fell at the first hurdle against The Dominator. And the top flyweight contender, the almost guy Joseph Benavidez. Who throughout the Ultimate Fighter 24 show seemed somewhat off when verbally jousting with fellow top ten Henry Cejudo… “I fucked guys like you in college..” Starring Conor McGregor and Dominick Cruz as the villains.

Mayweather v McGregor: Call me Crazy But I am Backing McGregor

McGregor vs Mayweather mural Dublin.

Call me Crazy But I am Backing McGregor vs Mayweather

Saturday 26th August, 11.26pm, PDT. A packed out T-Mobile Arena is still in shock at what they have witnessed; Conor McGregor is atop the middle turnbuckle wrapped in the Irish flag. Basking in the glory at doing the unthinkable. He has just stopped the best boxer of the last 20 years… imagine. Like straight out of a movie the thought of Conor McGregor winning seems only apt for a Hollywood screenwriter’s imagination.

99.9% of the world think it is a foregone conclusion and I agree it should be a night that Floyd goes to 50-0… but here’s the thing whenever something with Conor McGregor should happen. He always flips things on their head. When I say it out loud it sounds insane, but I actually genuinely believe Conor will knock him out.

Conor McGregor in front of mural.Hate it or love it, the fight is on. It has already garnered massive attention globally and we haven’t even had the first press conference!

Everyone has an opinion on the bout, from the hardcore boxing fans and media’s perspective. It is a complete mismatch and puts a black mark on their sport.

49 opponents have tried to work out the ‘May-vinci’ code and each and every one has been unable to find the key to victory.

The bulk of the MMA world have also add their concerns and feel that Conor will be exposed and if the towel isn’t thrown in, he will be outclassed from round 1 through to 12.

Before I give my two cents I want to stress that boxing was my first great love and still is a massive part of my life. I have been a boxing fan as long as I can possibly remember and I’m not a new wave ‘UFC bro’. Who has just joined the hype train with ‘McGregor- Mania’ – despite this. Conor’s career trajectory has been something that has fascinated me and do believe we are witnessing a once in a generation athlete before our very eyes. Every aspect his game, psyche and preparation is awe-inspiring.

Floyd Mayweather is the greatest defensive boxer I have ever seen and is exactly what the ‘sweet-science’ all about – he lands lots of punches, doesn’t waste a lot in throwing them, and he’s extremely hard to hit. His skillset is world-class, his boxing IQ and timing are a joy to watch. Yes, he has benefited from picking and choosing his opponents, but he has still made the likes of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton and Arturo Gatti look amateurish.

Shane Mosley hits Floyd Mayweather. For the past 15 years he has had no equal both in terms of technical skill and from a financial perspective. However, he has his moments of ‘looking mortal’, ‘Sugar’ Shane Moseley caught him with a blistering shot that had him visibly wobbled. The unheralded journeyman Emanuel Augustus gave a young Mayweather a torrid night until being stopped in round 9. Jose Luis Castillo had two opportunities to take the ‘0’ from Mayweather and utilized a pressure game that he struggled to cope with and truth be told, Mayweather was lucky to scrape with 2 wins.

Marcos Maidana non-stop aggression and volume of punches gave Mayweather another night he would want to forget, but like a true champion he eventually adjusted to Maidana’s ‘gung-ho’ style and was able to secure the majority-decision win. Come fight night Floyd will be 40 years old, with 2 years out of the ring after taking a mini-retirement, the one thing no man beats in sports is ‘father time’.

Eventually 20 years of hard training camps, and in addition the lengthy hiatus would seem a disadvantage to any other man, but I give Floyd massive respect as he has proven time and time again to find a way to win. Against against a non-boxer in Conor McGregor, you would expect him to pick his opponent off and evade trouble throughout the bout, but for me this is a fight I think turns everything on its head.

Conor Mcgregor hitting pads.In all his wins, Conor has shown unique timing and ability in being able to find a home for his left hand and every opponent who has been in the cage with Conor have remarked that his power is unexpected. In post-fight conference after beating Eddie Alvarez, Conor stated, “They have got to have size, reach, length, you have got to have some attributes. If you come in any way equal to me I am going to rip your head off, it happens every time.”

The fight has been set at 154lbs and come fight night I think Conor’s physicalities against Mayweather will be something similar to the Canelo v Floyd fight, with the Irishman being the much larger of the two. (Conor McGregor’s statistics are 5 ft. 9, 74inch reach and currently fights between 145lbs and 155lbs. Floyd Mayweather statistics are 5ft 8, 72 inch reach and has tended to fight between 147lbs and 154lbs)

So how could Conor realistically win?

Ricky Hatton getting hit.Floyd in recent times has had a lot of issues with his hands and hasn’t knocked any opponent out since Victor Ortiz in 2011 (but Floyd took full advantage of the ‘protect yourself at all time’ ruling and hit Ortiz without him not knowing much about it). Realistically his last competitive knockout victory was against Ricky Hatton in 2007.

Conor has shown he has a granite chin, and with heavier gloves the danger in him being KO’d is marginal. He has to rely on all his unique brand of trash talking at the first press conference and try to get into Floyd’s head. Mayweather has seen it all in a 20-year career, but a barrage of insults from the fiery Irishman will be something he hasn’t seen. Come fight night Conor needs to bring it all with him, up in the clinch he needs to berate his opponent similar to the night he beat Chad Mendes. Every advantage possible to gain Conor should take at every opportunity.

The gameplan should be to attack from the opening bell – he needs to do is get aggressive and dirty. Yes he runs the risk of being deducted points, but his best tactic is get in the clinch, get him up against the ropes and use his assumed greater strength to ‘ruffle up’ Mayweather. Castillo, Maidana and even Hatton in the early rounds of their bout had great success in taking Mayweather off-kilter. The first 5 rounds are Conor’s key moments to ensure victory. I believe if it goes past this, he will tire considerably and by this stage of the fight could see Mayweather find his rhythm.

Conor boxing MSG NYC.In Mayweather’s most recent bouts, it has taken longer to figure out his opponents and Conor needs to take advantage of this. The boxing media can scoff at Conor’s unique movement which the deem nothing compared to the skill set of Floyd, but make no mistake the opening round Conor will have Floyd in a state of confusion.

I can envision a cagey first round of no real action, but one at which Conor’s rangy style and bravado proving to be a head scratcher for ‘The Money Team’. Round 2 will have Conor missing on a number of occasions and Floyd starting to come into his own, he’ll catch Conor a couple of times and they will be disregarded by Conor as merely slaps. Round 3 will see things start to move up a notch, Conor will clinch in and he will shrug off Floyd in the corner. The referee will caution Conor for rabbit punches to the back of the head, and the round will close out with Floyd showing his almost sixth sense for evading the punches. Round 4 will see an exchange in the corner with Floyd trying to evade to the right before Conor manages to find home

Then the silence. Conor shocks the world!

Wishful thinking right?! Absolutely, but one I would never bet against Conor from doing. This man has already won by achieving the unthinkable going for welfare to earning at least 100 million within 4 years. Bet against him to doing this at your own peril.

Freddie Roach "McGregor is Not That Good of a Fighter! Hes a 4 Round Fighter at This Point!"

Freddie Roach “There’s Some stiffs out There. We’ve Dug Them up Before!”

Freddie Roach blasts Conor McGregor and says he’s a four round fighter ahead of this Mayweather vs Mcgregor super fight.

“He’s fun to watch, he’s a character. But again, he’s not that good a fighter. He’ll let his hands go and so forth and he’s a little wild. But as far as boxing wise. Supposedly with the Wildcard, with Chris VanHeerden. And Van Heerden told me, I killed him. But, I wasn’t there so I don’t know. Chris Van Heerden, tough kid, a good boxer. But I just don’t think that he’s in that class of boxing. I mean he’s put himself at a very very high level. I mean I think he’s more of a four-round fight at this point.”

Mikey Garcia said that if he were to fight him he’d train with the amateurs.

“Well, I think Mikey can get away with saying that, because I think Mikey can kick his ass. So I agree.”

Do you think there’s any fighter that McGregor can beat, boxing wise?

“Yes, I’m sure there’s some stiffs out there. We’ve dug them up before. Nobody of note though!”

WATCH: " One Punch can Change a Story" Conor McGregor's Former Boxing Coach

Conor McGregor’s former boxing coach has his say on Mayweather bout

The location, Crumlin boxing club in Dublin Ireland. As we hear from the first boxing coach of Conor McGregor.

“It’s every boxers dream to have a fight like this. Conor is a UFC fighter and to take on the best in the world. He’s an unorthodox boxer, where he can switch changes. He can go southpaw or he can go orthodox. And that may baffle Mayweather, that may just catch him. It’s a twelve, three minute fight.

Conor’s doing four fives in the octagon. It’s hard goin, but they don’t really last that long with Conor. This is going to be a tactical fight. and whoever can last the distance. And Mayweather will be thinking of this. Whether Mayweather’s taking it seriously enough, I don’t know! Conor wants to win, that will be the ultimate fight. he doesn’t have to ever get into the ring again in his life. That the name of the game. One punch can change a story.”

Long long ago, in a small land far away, there came a fighter…

TOP 5 Biggest Rivalries in UFC History

Top 5 Rivalries in the History of the UFC

Here are the Top 5 rivalries in UFC history, according to our man The Promo Guy. To be fair, throughout the relatively short history of the UFC there’s quite a few to choose from. Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier aka I beat your ass after a weekend of cocaine! Tito vs Ken Shamrock. Tito vs “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell! Luke Rockhold vs “The Count” Michael Bisping. “Conceive, Believe, Achieve… Sounds like the worst self-help book you have ever read!”

And of course, who could forget Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva “You absolutely suck..” Of course, some feuds never got the coverage of these highly publicised examples. But that is a story for another day. This is his biggest project so far and the Promo guy hopes the fans like it, so show him some love and subscribe! This will be a two-part series because there are so many more epic rivalries in UFC history. As always have a nice day fight fans!

What Truly Makes Men Dangerous ■ The Fear Antidote: Cormier & McGregor

What Truly Makes Men Dangerous ■ The Fear Antidote

Men reaching astronomical heights due to thoughts of a loved one. Or, loved ones, is not uncommon. Daniel Cormier achieved the highest of his goals. Only following the death of his baby daughter. Conor McGregor envisioned his family struggling. He visualised him giving back to them and to his country of Ireland, once he was a UFC World Champion.

“Giving to people who have given to me. I always dreamed about showing up one day and be like, here! And that would always give me, like, good feelings…. It’s a depressing time for a lot of people in Ireland. There’s alot of bad stuff goin on in the country, everybody’s struggling. A lot of people are struggling. But since they’ve seen me chase this dream. It’s given them an energy and I see a new lease of life in them. And that alone spurs me on even more. So it’s all just a perfect storm that is happening for me. And that is why I have this tunnel vision. And that is why I am willing to kill every single man in my path to get that belt. To secure the future, my families future, that’s what I’m doing it for..”

The average man. Riddled with fear, anxiety, an inability to engage the world before him with the full force of his existence. Why? When you know why you become a dangerous force of nature.

Sport Psychology: Conor McGregor - Self-Efficacy In Sport

Conor McGregor and Self-Efficacy In Sport

What is Self-Efficacy? Self-Efficacy is the belief in our own abilities to perform a given task. Conor McGregor is a perfect example of how high levels of Self-Efficacy can improve sporting performance. Without a doubt, McGregor is the most famous fighter in the world today! Becoming the first UFC fighter to hold two championships belts, in two different weight divisions. It’s pretty safe to say by now that he has literally taken over the UFC.

While Conor has all the attributes of a great fighter, so do his opponents. But what separates him from everyone else is his self-efficacy. A concept developed by Albert Bandura. He described it as;

“The belief in one’s capabilities to organise and execute the course of action required, producing a given attainment.”

“Without confidence in one’s own ability. An individual cannot perform to his or her own potential. It is even possible that someone with lesser ability, but with confidence, can out perform this person. Because of belief in oneself can be a powerful influence!”

Performance Accomplishments can be Defined as Past Experiences

It is said that this is the most influential of all the four sources of self-efficacy. This influence however all depends on the athlete’s perception of those past difficult experiences. Overcoming great challenges will carry greater amounts of self-efficacy. Than easy challenges which require little or no challenge to overcome. With more adversity, an athlete can overcome. The greater their belief in their ability to overcome future adversity will be.

When an athlete doesn’t have enough accomplishments to increase their self-efficacy. It can come from an emotional source. The emotional source of self-efficacy can be very fluid and can change on a day to day basis. Conor McGregor is a bit of a showman. His emotional state is enhanced by his class clown personality. And his high-intensity attitude that he brings to every fight.

But what is most fascinating about Conor McGregor. Is how he reverse engineers his emotional source of self-efficacy. And uses it against his opponent!

Fedor Emelianenko: From Russia with Love

Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator NYC.

Fedor Emelianenko’s Return to Victory?

Bellator MMA hosts its first ever card in the Big Apple this weekend at the world famous Madison Square Garden. With a card headlined by one of the most revered faces in the history of mixed martial arts. As Fedor Emelianenko makes his return to mainstream MMA. I say mainstream, because quite frankly, not that many US fans keep tabs on the goings on outside of the Stateside bubble.

July 30th, 2011 signalled Fedor’s third consecutive loss on US soil. This time to Dan Henderson, who had moved up from middleweight to take on the Russian at 205lb’s. It would be the last time we saw Fedor fighting on US television. At the ripe age of 34, really not that old for a heavyweight. He made the decision to continue his career back in mother Russia.

Fedor’s plan to dominate in the US hadn’t gone according to plan. And with his move east, any hope of fight fans ever seeing him inside the famed UFC Octagon had all but evaporated too.

Back in the USSR, oops! Russia. Emelianenko managed to put together a three-fight win streak. Culminating with a vicious KO stoppage under the St Petersburg flood lights of grizzled veteran, Brazilian Pedro Rizzo. With the victory, Fedor finally called an end to a 12 year, 38 fight career. A fighter, so many of his own peers who are also considered greats, had chosen as their best of all time.

The mild-mannered man of few words. The humble samurai revered by fighters and fans from Japan to Jakarta. The Last Emperor Fedor Emelianenko signed off for the final time.

A Fighters Heart Never Sleeps…

A recurring theme in the world of combat sports. Fighters who feel they still have something left in the tank. More to give or something left to prove!

With rumblings and whispers having reverberated around the MMA world for some time. Fedor is back! New Years Eve 2015 signalled his return to competing as he faced a fighter almost no one had heard of in Jaideep Singh. A gimme, as they say in the business. Fedor, as expected made light work of the kickboxer. But what if anything did we learn in a one-sided bout, that really made no sense since it was first announcement. Nothing!

July of 2016, Emelianenko stepped in against the ultra durable Fabio Maldonado. Winning a somewhat dubious decision on home soil, in a fight, many had the Brazilian winning on points. What happens in St Petersburg stays in St Petersburg!

Fedor and Matt Mitrione face off.Jump forward to June 24th, 2017. As one year on, Fedor returns to US soil to stake his claim and set the record straight. As the co-main headliner at Bellator 180. Emelianenko once again faces a dangerous big man in Matt Mitrione, “Meathead” to his fans. A fighter who made his name, alalbeit as the heel in The Ultimate Fighter house.

Having come to the sport pretty late in his career. Mitrione is a fighter who at least claims he’s not at all fazed by the Russian’s mystique. And you know what, I believe him.

And with that being said, he’s got all the tools and attributes to make it a very long night for Fedor at MSG. With history yet to be written. Will it be a successful return of The Last Emperor to a land which has dealt him all of his professional losses, bar one. The one we don’t really count!

How will he compete at the ripe age of 40. With the wind at his back and the crowd perhaps on his side. One more time… one last time?

B.J. Penn Briefly Considered Walking Away! But has to Finish what He Started

Baby J is back, again! You thought he was gone, hell no! The UFC Hall of Famer admitted that he briefly considered walking away from the sport for the second time. Following a January loss against rising star Yair Rodriguez. In a fight which was to signal the return of the Prodigy. This time around he faces Dennis Siver in a must win featherweight clash. We say must win, but already on a four fight losing streak! If he does not get the win, you can never count out, him deciding to once again try his luck. In terms of his Oklahoma City fight, Penn says he ultimately decided he had to finish what he started. So we will have to wait for the post fight press conference to see where the mma pioneer’s head is ultimately at!

The Alien also spoke about Conor McGregor vs Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Calling it a “fake news” fight. Hopkins reckons that it simply shouldn’t be allowed for someone to simply walk in off the street. Without any experience in professional “boxing”! And claim the grand prize, that is fighting one of the very best in the sport’s history. It doesn’t happen in any other sport, so why boxing? It ruins the sport’s credibility say, Hopkins.
